Kevin Huntley
Hi all, I am hoping to run my car at Elvington this weekend after fitting my latest mods (RLTC, HKS EVCIV, FCD & Downpipes) and I have a few questions about removing the "TRAC" fuse which I am hoping will allow me to reach speeds in excess of the limited 155 mph. 1) Is it safe to do so on a UK spec car? 2) How do you do it? detailed instructions would be nice, ie start by telling me where the fuse box is located? 3) Am I right in saying that by removing this fuse the stock traction control will be disabled and the 155mph limit will be removed? 4) Any side effects I need to know about? 5) As a result of removing the fuse will this stop me having to turn off the stock Traction control off everytime I get into the car to enable the RLTC to work which is becoming annoying? Thanks
Guest Martin F
1. Yes 2. Front right of engine bay directly behind the battery is the fuse box in question. Lift the lid and inside the lid is a legend showing which fuse is which. Should be easy enough to figure out. Maybe somebody else can tell you exactly which fuse number. 3. Yes 4. No, not on a manual car. 5. Yes. Hope that helps.
Dave R
Martin, I take it from your answer to 4 that there ARE side effects on an auto car? care to enlighten me?
Barry
Dave, Removing the fuse also disables to MANU mode on the Auto's, and the Overdrive light will constantly flash, but can still be used.
Guest Martin F
The auto's also close the sub-throttle plate (trac control throttle plate) on gear shift's. If you remove the trac fuse this will no longer happen, causing shifts to be harsher and possibly reducing the life of the auto box. But to what extent the life is reduced is open to debate. Barry
The Auto's have a feature called Maunal Mode (small button with the word MANU) on it. Switching this on means you can change between the first 3 gears (L,2,D) like a manual car, so it wont shift until you move the gear lever. Having this on also removes the overdrive option, but you can switch it on and off at the press of a button right next to the gear lever. It is a theoretical side effect, AFAIK nobody has done any practical measurements to see what the effect is in real life. But the reason that Toyota designed this feature in was to stop straining the box during shifts, so logic tells you that removing it will cause more strain. I've not heard anybody putting failure of a box down to removing the trac fuse, but that's not to say it wouldn't happen over time.

Kevin Huntley
Cheers for that Martin, Could anyone tell me the exact fuse number to save me hunting around? Do any Hazard lights iluminate on the dash when it is removed? Cheers
Guest Martin F
TRC light will be permanently on. If you think it's a real PITA then you'll have to remove the bulb.

Well, its not strictly fitted yet, more like sitting on desk waiting to be fitted I am unsure as to how to fit actually as I dont have the fitting kit and RaceLogic won't sell me one I am going to get a flange for it from somewhere and weld it to a hardpipe when I get one...
