Mike
I need to call upon my London based Supra brothers and sisters I'm taking out a special lady friend on Saturday and need a nice restaurant to take her to in Covent Garden. The food spec is veggie/fish. Nothing too uber-flash.. just somewhere 'nice' please. Good food/wine and relaxed atmosphere is the priority. I've very conscious that this is a really touristy bit of town (isn't everywhere in London town?) so I don't want to stubble in somewhere rubbish! Your recommendations please
Ewen
In Covent Garden itself... Chez Gerard..... http://www.chezgerardcoventgarden.5pm.co.uk/ If reserving, ask for a table in one of the booths. Henrys...... http://www.henryscafebars.co.uk/Venue/Default.asp?BV_ID=26 If reserving, ask for a table under the skylight. Livebait..... http://www.livebaitrestaurants.co.uk/Venue.asp?BV_ID=4 Just outside Covent Garden, five minute walk... Simpsons in the Strand.... http://www.simpsonsinthestrand.co.uk/

SupraStar 3000
lady friend!! oh Jezz, thanks for telling me. Ouch! My breaking heart!
stevie_b
The Cork and Bottle in Leicester Square isn't bad: http://www.corkandbottle.net/ Good atmosphere, cosy basement location down a winding wrought-iron staircase. Menu is OK: probably better known for its wine TBH but it's a contender.

stevie_b
That one looks good... and I love mussels.. but what if she's not a fan?! I went to Belgo's several years ago, although I can't imagine it's changed much. Excellent range of strong Belgian beers, some served in strange glasses. I can't remember much about the food, although I'm sure they do more than mussels. I do remember the setting being "school canteen" -esque, in a good way (looonnng tables, and the dining area was in a cellar/basement area (basements FTW!). Is Belgo's the one with tons and tons of beers? There used to be on in Angel? I used to be a regular there and relatively late lock ins Then it closed down
stevie_b
Sounds about right supra_aero. The one I went to was in Soho, I *presume* it's still there...

Charlotte
I'm being told by my friend that:- http://www.rules.co.uk/ - is amazing, great food. http://www.closmaggiore.com/v1/default.aspx - and this is great if you get a table in the conservatory. Might be a bit too much.
Ewen
Now that we are moving further out from the Covent Garden area, I'm surprised no ones suggested taking her up the Oxo Tower.
Snooze
Belgoes always a favourite Agreed! What I love about Belgo is that the food menu might as well be a laminated sheet of paper, where the beer menu is like a big, multi-page, leatherbound affair! Not really a fan of the shared tables in the cafeteria area tho.
