The actual premium is lower than last year,BUT the no claims discount protection fee has risen from £6.30 to £28.35.(so its now more).Crafty Bar stewards Has anyone else had their ncb discount protection fee increased. Vicky
What part of your policy did they decrease to make your premium go down seeing as its still cheaper than last year?
snake
The net premium went down by £11 but the NCB protection went up by £22 so the insurance has increased by £11.
Branners
a lot of policies now have 2 options for protecting NCB. You have protection which allows you a set number of accidents in a set period of time, and guaranteed which means you have have as many accidents as you want. Guaranteed costs way more, so perhaps it is that they have given you. It raises a question about the benefit of protecting no claims when they will penalise you anyway if you inform them you have an accident be it your fault or not. snake
i have just checked the paperwork and it's the same as last year, one claim in one year or two in three years.I asked why its gone up and was informed that it's the "new rate". I can only assume as it's gone up 5 fold my 1.3 fiesta must be an Animal.

That's a good point that I've often wondered about. The process of calculating insurance premiums seems to be as clear as a muddy pond. It'd be very easy for the insurance companies to sell extra cover to policyholders (e.g. NCD protected to various degrees) whereby the extra cover provides no meaningful benefit.
