keron
most of the time they kindly sting you with vat, tax, duty, handling...anything else they can think of...before you receive it... nice of them...just had a customers clutch arrive...£72 charges!! Kirk
crikey do the charges depend on how much the items worth, size and weight??
supra dan
it goes on the value.
dani_r
If you were going to be charged you would receive a money request before you got hold of your package, that way you can't 'conveniently' forget to pay it! It was my clutch that Keron got hold of, the first time I've ever been charged for stuff from the states, but I suppose when you consider size, value, weight etc they can't mark it low value! Still, a PITA nonetheless.
merckx
What the hell happens now? Do customs get in touch with me or what? Just wait if it's being sent to your address and the tracking info will say it's left customs and on it's way to you, you may or may not have to pay duty but they'll be in touch. If you were going to be charged you would receive a money request before you got hold of your package, that way you can't 'conveniently' . That's what I always thought but last time when I received my car cover from the states it was delivered before I was sent the bill for the import duty. jacko
most of my stuff has been delivered by fedx i usually get a bill about a week after delivery Ye Fedex pay the customs bill and then invoice you- i imagine they only do this up to a certain value though- I've ordered quite a bit from overseas and only been stung once for charges, was still cheaper than buying it in the UK though
marbleapple
I believe you have a limit of approx £34 before you are liable fo VAT and a handling charge (from America). Often you might get away with not paying tax as the Royal Maill don't check the customs forms the closely. That's my experience any way.
