Couple of issues with my car

I have a couple of problems with my TT, the first is the auto gearbox (or at least I think it is the gearbox) sometimes when I put it in D from stand still, it stalls when I put my foot down to go, it has done this about 4 times in the last 3000 miles, although I think it may be getting worse. I also put it in R the other day and it just revved and wouldn't go back, then finally it did, also while going about 40mph the other day, I was in D already, and put my foot down and it just revs and doesn't want to go, so I have to change down and then back to D again, it has only done this a couple of times though. I have checked the gearbox oil and it is at the correct level. So does it sound like I need a new box?

The second problem I have is the O/D light starts flashing sometimes, it has been ever since I had a boost controller and turbo timer fitted. I did take it back to AFR and it was fixed for about 50 miles, now has started flashing again. Also when I put my foot down a fair bit the engine light comes on for about 5 minutes and then goes off again. This again has only started happening since the boost controller etc was fitted. (which may of course be irrelevant) AFR said it was fixed, however it just keeps coming back on :(

Any suggestions?

I had similar behaviour with my o/d light and engine warning light when my speedo converter was wired up incorrectly. Once that was rewired properly, it was fine.

No clue on the gearbox though.

Hope you get it sorted!

AFR did say that the wiring was a big mess in my car, but I thought it was all sorted. I'll have a go at checking the error code later. I am more worried about the gearbox though.

dont worry to much about the box, auto boxes are nice and cheap :)

my auto box does that sometimes. its odd and very random. its stopped doing it now. I think its due to a stocking idle/throttle valve or something somewhere. When i move off its fine as i dont accelerate much till the bottom of my road. then when i pull out into trafic i obviously use more throttle and it just dies. doesnt stall but almost. Nothing happens even if i floor the throttle. But then after a second on 2 it moves like normal. And doesnt happen again.

Yep that is what I get, thing is, I take it in to AFR and it doesn't do it!! It has only done it very rarely, but I am sure it shouldn't be like that?!

Just a thought Nell, it may be worth cleaning the gearbox filter as the symptoms are like I said low fluid , a blocked filter gives the same symptoms!!!!! Cheaper than a new box and if your lights are on we can plug the diagnostics straight in.

Where is the gearbox filter and how do I take it off! I need to bring it in anyway to get the Apexi filter put on and give that nasty HKS one back to you! Any ideas on a price for moving my intercooler down yet :)

You wont be able to do the filter, it is in the sump of the gearbox which is stuck on with RTV sealer, it is a messy job even on a ramp. We can talk about the IC moving when you come in.

crazy suggestion - well not so crazy.

I once had a faulty speed delimiter and converter for the odo etc this caused a lot of weird similar problems with my auto box as described.

might be worth considering

Now THATS crazy :p

I'm wondering if the stalling issue is gearbox related or not? Sounds like you have 3 seperate issues but only possibly 2.

I wouldn't worry about the flickering lights as per the above posts, its always a niggle though.

Good luck

Interesting. I only recently had the TSD put in, so I will get AFR to check that too :)

Thanks, I am not worried about the lights, I know how much of a mess my wiring was in, it really needs tidying up properly, however if I was to sell the car, I am sure it would put someone off, so would like it sorted.

I think the best thing is to get it on the ramp, check the gearbox filter etc and see if that does anything, as I don't really want to pay to have a new gearbox fitted, although I am used to spending all my money on my car now lol.

Sounds a very likely cause, not a crazy suggestion at all :)

Check the oil level, and it's NOT done like you would check the engine oil, there's a very specific way to check auto box oil.

Yes Chris thx - I came to the conclusion the box went daft thinking the car was moving etc etc - weird but true
