Scott
Does your car have a MAF? Few months ago the plug fell out of ours and the car ran like a bag of sh1t. Engine light on, runs really rough and if you don't use a LOT of gas it stalls. Of course if you don't have one it won't be that lol. Nodalmighty
Unfortunately, when the car was running, I noticed a small puddle appearing under the radiator. A few drops of coolant were leaking from the radiator air drain, so I tried to close the valve tighter and it did turn about 15 degrees but then there was this hissing noise for a few minutes. So it looks like the valve is buggered. I'm hoping some radweld will fix it as I really don't want to have to replace the radiator because of this valve. or you could just replace the o-ring on the valve tap, common fault Lyndon. mawby
How do I do that? When I looked at it it didn't look like it was supposed to come part.

mawby
Excellent. I'll have to take a closer look at it this evening without the ffs-what-now attitude I had yesterday! I don't suppose you know the part number do you?
Todd
Checking it looks like it's 90910-09054 But check here yourself http://www.ayrpark.plus.com/epc/toyota/fullimg.asp/piid=46312&mid=2&cid=215&fulldate=12_01_1993.html
mawby
Excellent - again. So do the drains plugs just screw into the radiator? I have the repair manuals at home but that's another 2 hours away.
Todd
Yeah, you'll see from the diagram there is a rubber ring there are well, as suggested prior it's prob just that that is perished
mawby
You know this site has been far more helpful with my MR2 problem than the MR2 sites have ever been! So I'm going to ask this question here and see if anyone knows the answer; Does anyone know what the difference is between part numbers; 89661-17360 89661-17290 Both have the description "3S-G A241E" but my car has the 17360 which needs replacing, but the only second hand ones I can find are all 17290. I don't want to put a 17290 one in only to find something suddenly stops working. I'm 99.9% sure I can just put a 89661-17290 ECU in and it will work (and I may have to given I can't find any 89661-17360 ECUs) but I'm guessing there must be a difference otherwise there wouldn't be two different parts. Todd
OK how is this for a guess, spent a wee bit looking and can't find a thing but the 2 adverts I found for your ECU are all rev1/2 autos, the manuals are all the other ECU number. Could it be that?
mawby
I'm sure they are both auto. The 'other' part number is listed here as an auto. And you can make it out in the picture that the 3S-G A241E ECUs do have the 17290 part number.

Becks
My dad had this problem on his 3sge about a month ago. Same symptons. Turned out to be a altenator was on its way out. Very common on the 3sge as it is below the oil cap/filler and over time it gets cloged up easly. Becks
mawby
I've been meaning to update this thread. The ECU's are not interchangeable, but I managed to find the correct one in the end for £45. Fitted it and the car started up first time. I got Paul Whiffen to send me a new cock and ring to try and fix the radiator leak. The new cock was too long for the hole so I couldn't use it, but I changed the ring on he old one which was knackered and that stopped the drain valve from leaking.... but then it sprung a leak from where the valve joined the radiator. One bottle of RadWeld later and that leak seems to have stopped now, so it's not going to be long now before the little MR2 is back on the road. Becks ironic, my MR2 has a similiar issue, though it does seem a bit of a silly place to have the alternator:P if i could easily access it, id give it a proper clea, maybe replace the bushes. it doesnt look tooo complicated to remove, diagnosis mount, and another thing will free up room to remove from the engine bay.
