Trig
Hi guys, as the title, my air con is not working, when i push the button it comes on for about 3 seconds (revs rise etc) but then it shuts off on its own and the A/C light starts flashing. Any ideas? Hope its something simple.
Angarak
it wont run if its low on gas, may just need a re-charge from a local A/C specialist (or you can do it yourself with a Halfords kit).
merckx
or you can do it yourself with a Halfords kit I bought the diy kit, it did work to some extent but it's not that cold. I'll take it somewhere next time.
stevie_b
You can put the aircon unit in some sort of diagnostics mode IIRC by pressing the heater controls in a certain sequence. That might guide you as to what's wrong. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=22128&highlight=aircon+diagnostic post 6 Edited August 3, 2009 by stevie_b (see edit history)
martin1982
Has anyone had to have their Aircon system flushed out? Had mine re-gassed a few years back and there was a problem which indicated there may be a blockage somewhere. Is there an alternative way to go about clearing a blockage without having the whole system flushed?
jackso11
I did it myself with one of the kits. Worked what seemed to be really well....but then again it didn't work at all before. Used my dads car at the weekend and put the aircon on and it was wau colder than mine. I will get it done by kwik-fit next time, they only charge £45 anyway
jackso11
by the way, the DIY kits are nick named death kits in the states due to the amount of people who have been killed by exploding kits when doing it. I think its due to people putting the kit on backwards though which you can't do with modern kits as the in and out gas ports are different sizes. Guest senna
Trig can you tell me if refilling sorts your problem out, cause ive got the same thing happening on mine. I showed it to an admittedly not to competent mechanic and he told me my air con pump had seized but wouldnt attempt to fix it as he said he doesnt mess with airconditioners! Anyone else heard of this?
Guest senna
Oh forgot to mention, when I idle and press my ac button the engine revs really drop alot more than usual, then as trig said, it trys to work for a few seconds and then stops trying and starts flashing.
