Homer Posted August 1, 2009 Share Posted August 1, 2009 It looks like you have the same problem as I have on my wheels; water seeps in between the polished lip and the alloy wheel and gets underneath the lacquer where it sits....and corrodes.... Eventually the lacquer blisters and flakes off...sorry to give you bad news but it seems they're on their way. As for a refurb, as the polished lip is curved over the alloy, it can't be removed without distorting/damaging it (they can't be bought seperately) so a refurb is out of the question too - been there, tried several peeps and thats the upshot only option left is to get the lip taken off permanently and getting the wheel powder coated Had a look at the wheels today (actually the car is parked outside my house now, honestly Rob ), they're 3 peice and from what I can see the centre piece should be possible to be removed without damaging the polished outer rim, though will measure it - good point! You're right about the corrosion, it looks like water penetration and it is starting to lift in places. Is powder costing the best option for these or will that also have the same issue? The original 3 are okay, but then I buckled one in a pothole and bought a new one and the new one lasted a year before flaking. The other 3 are still fine? Weird.
