Guest TheGamerXxX
Hi all **some background first** It's a 93 Auto NA, JDM(RHD) import. I got it in a 'rough' shape and am trying to sort out mechanical first, then Im tackling the body/paint. (first of... I searched... came up with a few usefull threads but nothing 100% related) Here's my issue... at low speed... no noise... at about 40-50k/h there is a "rubbing" noise (kind of like worn bearings) I think it might be coming from the Diff but not 100% sure. Noise increases as speed increases** I put the car on a hoist... and no bearing noise so it must be only under load... Still have to put it on a Dyno or something to figure this one out. Noise doesnt change under cornering* ------------------------------------------------------- Second issue... I've noticed my auto tranny (NA) doesnt like going into 1st gear. I've checked Trans Fluid... was cloudy... so replaced that... Seems like When 'flooring it' off start it seems to be either in 3rd or possibly 2nd... than around 40k/h it takes of really decent. I tried playing with the "Manu" button... but I can't tell any difference nor there is any indication that the button really does anything. Having said that, I tried just doing manual shifting (L-2-D) and it shifts fine(as in no noise or rattling or anything) and it accelerates what I would expect it to. My thinking... either the Manu button is disconnected somehow and is stuck in Manu mode (does it reset when car is switched off?) OR there is a Solenoid issue in the tranny. I did a lot of research regarding the Manu Mode (OD/Manu) and tried playing around with mine... to no avail. Luke
pistonbroke
First issue - can you record the noise on a mobile and get it on here for us to listen? Second issue - When you press the manu button, does the light come on on the dash?' if it still lights up, It's not disconnected. If I've understood what you've said, it simply sounds like it's not kicking down into first properly when in auto mode. The throttle linkage probably needs adjusting to rectify this. Guest TheGamerXxX
I'll try to record the noise when driving sometime tomorrow... Throttle linkage? how do I go about adjusting that (/me uses search) Luke
pistonbroke
I haven't got an auto anymore so can't have a gander myself. but from memory, you should feel a two step effect in the accelerator, this is for the kick down. It sounds like yours isn't kicking down so may need to be tightened.
Guest TheGamerXxX
I tried recording it... just sounds like engine... can't really hear it... Imagine saying wow over and over, with wheel revolutions (it seems)... sounds almost like a wheel out of balance but without the 'air' wave. Do you kind of have an idea what I mean? Grr. Where is the "manu" light located? (the warning light cluster? or one of the gauges like Tach/Speedo?) Luke
caseys
the manu light is located below the gear lights on the rev gauge right next to the O/D OFF light. How much trans fluid did you drain and replace when you swapped it out?
Guest TheGamerXxX
Can't tell you... A buddy did it at his work since they got a lift and everything (to check out diff noise) I think 3-4L or something crazeh. That would explain why I never see the light I have Indiglo gauges on so the light is hidden behind the gauge (only thing showing is master warning). I'll try it at night maybe some will come through or something. How much is a Tranny Solenoid going to cost me/where to find one (more specifically) Thanks for everything Luke Edited August 5, 2009 by TheGamerXxX (see edit history)
