Conrad
A mate of mine is about to get his license back after a 9 month ban for drink driving. Not as bad as it first sounds, he was caught driving one of them mini moto's on a lads weekend in Newquay after a few too many. He got done for no insurance, MOT and no helmet too. They basically threw the book at him for driving an R1 replica no taller than your knee cap He had his 1 year ban reduced to 9 months for doing a course and sold his Scooby to boot! Now he's getting his license back he wants a proper car, a TT. He wants a manual but only has £8k ish, it's a big ask so I'm trying to get him to consider an auto. Anyway, Sky have quoted him £2600 TPFT with the DR10 and IN10 for any Supra model. He's willing to pay it, just about, but if anyone knows of somebody else who specialise in DD drivers with a jap import he should be trying I would appreciate it. Afterall, the less he pays on insurance the more chance he has of affording a 6 speed. Cheers
michael parker
You can try elephant online, they were the cheapest for me, not sure what they're like for "dd" but my quote was the best around as most companies wouldn't insure me as im only 23 years old!!! worth 10 mins of your time to type the details in, i always find elephant cheap for hi-perf cars though quite dear for average cars???? Bobbeh
2600! Tell him not to waste his money, seriously.
Conrad
We'll give Elephant a try then, cheers! £2600 is a lot I know but he's adament he wants a quick car and as he still lives at home with no serious outgoings, he may as well spend his money on something he really wants. Might as well buy it now while he can afford it rather than wish he had bought it 5yrs from now when he has 3 kids and a mortgage. TBH, the lure of the Supe is too great. toyotasuprauk
Its going to to be high for anyone with DD, but I agree £2600 is stupid amount of money for insurance. Try the clubs insurance they generally seem to offer very good prices.
terribleturner
Getting insurance with a DD ban and having no insurance isn't gonna be easy. How old is he?? I don't think £2600 is to bad for what he's racked up. He wants a fast car then that's unfortunatly the price he's gonna have to get used to paying. martynb
I think he did well to get a quote at all on a car like the supe with a DD - most people have to drive a micra or something cruddy and then still beg on their hands and knees. Bobbeh
Nope, compared with what im paying thats crap.
Conrad
Elephant wont insure him, unacceptable conviction history! Bobbeh, when you say it's too much compared to what you're paying, do you mean because you have a DD too? If so who are you with? My mate is 24 with 3 years NCB btw. terribleturner
Your mate better garba a copy of the yellow pages and maybe Max Power and just ring round everyone. He's gonna be looking around the 3k mark 3PFT i reckon. Maybe he should just take the hit and get something a little less powerfull?? 205 gti maybe?? I don't know, but something a little less insurance friendly.
