Supragal
OK, VERY confused now. Got a quote earlier from Sky for my car based on 7 years NCB. I've actually got 8 but Tesco (current insurer) say that because the policy has been suspended for more than 90 days I can either have a refund for that year or a years NCB (hmmm tough choice, £1400+ or 1yrs NCB?? lol) However I've just spoken to another tw*t on the phone at Tesco and asked if I wait until June will I get my extra years NCB (just to check...) and he says No because they consider 6 years to be "full NCB" therefore thats all they will "give" me anyway. I said I'd like it in writing that I have 7/8 years NCB and they are refusing saying that every insurance company is the same so all I have to do is say I have "full NCB" and it'll be ok. Is that true??
Bobbeh
You're going with Tesco? They quoted me an ok price until i told them my car had mods, then they jacked the price UP by £1k!
Supragal
No, I was with Tesco (only company that would cover for a half reasonable amount 2 years ago) What I'm saying is that they won't give me in writing proof of 7/8 years NCB to give to my next insurer. What annoys me most is that you get a different story each time you ring.
Jake
I think that's right, Rosie. 6 years NCD is the maximum, it doesn't matter if you have 6 years or 99 years NCD, you get the same discount.
Samurai446
Some insurance companies go upto 8 years ncb.
Bobbeh
Its all a joke at the end of the day, no consitency with anything as you said, other than the fact they're trying to get as much money out of you as they can
MONKEYmark
i just cancelled mine as car off road. and they said i am due £51 back. got my renewal and it was £1,001.27 annual premium £102.60 road rescue premium £55.19 insurance premium tax £ 1,159.06 total for new year. you have to ask when you get insurance what the companys maximum discount is some are 5 years others have more. i lost out going with a company who only had a maximum of 5 years bonus. it keeps going up every year. mind you had a big claim off liverpool victoria last year. supragal is your car any closer to been done? iwannasupra
it IS true.. i work at norwich union direct.. max ncd is all they can supply (ours is 5yrs), but on the proof of ncd, most supply a percentage disc aswell.. comapnys usually ask how long you had the max ncd for and calculate accordingly. Keith C
Faye had this with Tesco, but eventually got them to confirm, in writing, all 7 years of her NCB.
martynb
Tell them that you are not satisfied that they will not provide written evidence of your bonus as well as the number of years you have been claim free. Ask to speak to a manager and repeat the above. If they don't agree to give it to you tell them you wish to make an official complaint and make sure you use the word "complaint". If they won't let you speak to a manager use the word "complaint" sooner. This will kick in a whole set of procedures they probably won't want to go through - it won't do any harm to mention the Financial Services Authority either. When the new insurer got the NCB they added £150 to the policy
iwannasupra
dont complain, no point, your new insurer can contact your old insurer and ask.. they mostly do unless they cant be bothered.. get your ins company to call you old one! easy. Timwildman
Direct line listed me as having 8 years, although I dont think the discount gets any better. But it's always good to know, and say to a new insurer

But there is a point :- 1. They aren't normally going to do that, it is up to you to provide it not them to go running around for you. 2. Even if they do you never have your evidence yourself and you are back to square one next time 3. Since January no insurer wants to rack up unnecessary complaints which they have to then report to the FSA

Faye
I had to work at them to get them to send the letter. They said insurance companies don't need more than 5 years. I told them that I was going to a proper insurance company that actually underwrote the risk and wasn't governed by some stupid computer. Seemed to work a treat! Supragal
Ok, I *think* this is sorted. I'm not counting on it until I actually have the letter in my mitts but apparently 8 years NCB will be mone Have to say that they guy I spoke to today was sorted, knew his stuff, polite, friendly etc etc so thats a nice change from the rude arrogant person the other night!
