gt4tosupra
Finally getting my GT4 sold to a chap whose coming all the way from Czech Republic! Only thing is tho the tax runs out in 3 days, he's collecting next week, so do i need to tax the car? As next week it will have left the country!! Pot
Technically I'd say if it's on the road, then yes (To stick within the law)... Else declare it SORN and let him worry about it when he drives back (I presume you've sold it without tax?) EDIT : Or sum up the chance of you getting caught for no tax if it's parked on the road? Its parked on our drive:D (well, dads drive:p) I dont want the guy getting pulled on his way down to Dover, so i'm thinking maybe buy the tax, then ask him to post it back to me so i can get 5 months worth of it back. Selling with or without tax wont make a difference to my buyer, as he's not from UK and car going abroad;)
Pot
That of course puts an element of trust on the buyer? What's to stop him from cashing it in himself and keeping the lot?... If it's off the road (On your Dads drive), and you declare it SORN, and aren't selling it 'with tax', you've got yourself fully covered... Send the SORN off by post, so it won't be processed until after it's been sold (And wait a couple of days, Royal Mail's so unreliable ) - It's up to the buyer to ensure they're fully covered to drive, it's not your problem once it's his, eg, I bet you're not insuring him either or checking he's got insurance?... Well its funny you should say that, cos now he's asking me how to get insured and i've no idea! went on tempcover.com and i think that is only for uk residents! Never mind foreign drivers who wanna drive through uk and europe ! Dont wanna just give him the car and land him in a mess, but any pointers i can give him people? re insurance ? Pot
Maybe there's a company in his country that could cover him? As far as my insurance experience goes, one of the main questions is "Are you a UK resident"? (With companies we have access to in the UK) - I'm not trying to sound too objective, as of course I guess he could pull out of the sale, but apart from doing the cash for car deal I can't see how much you can help him?... Wondering if any of the importers, or people who have imported from the EU could advise?...
gaz1
he should be able to sort the insurance at his end, as for the tax thats up to you, but you could tax it then keep the disc until he has left dover as it will still be taxed no matter who has the disc;)
gt4tosupra
he should be able to sort the insurance at his end, as for the tax thats up to you, but you could tax it then keep the disc until he has left dover as it will still be taxed no matter who has the disc;) Smart thinking with the tax disc! Why didnt i think of that:blink: As for the insurance, i thought the same thing! But he says he is not finding anything in his country. Only other thing is that in his country, he would be insuring a 'foreign to them' car. Complicated!!
Pot
Same as us with J-Specs though?...
Pot
as for the tax thats up to you, but you could tax it then keep the disc until he has left dover as it will still be taxed no matter who has the disc;) Good thinking, the only issue is that (As far as I remember), the tax has to be displayed, but I'm sure with an explanation (and a phone call to you if he does get pulled) that'd be dropped straight away... (Of course I'm assuming common sense is applied )
AlanM
From January this year you can no longer get a refund on a tax disk without presenting the V5
gt4tosupra
Same as us with J-Specs though?... Not exactly, as you wouldnt insure a J spec thats still in Japan and hasnt landed yet;)

Pot
Somebody today told me u get 14 days leeway on tax? true or false? I think that's an 'unnoficial rule'... On the flipside, a) No tax is a non-endorseable offence, so he'd only get a fine, and b) You'll have sold the car and got the cash (I presume you're dealing in cash?) so all liability is taken off you? c) We might be able to get some bits off it after it's siezed for no insurance, and then crushe... Oh, best not mention that...
Pot
Not exactly, as you wouldnt insure a J spec thats still in Japan and hasnt landed yet;) If Japan was a quick trip over, it'd be worth it, however I was on about the extra premiums we pay for them that we own and have
