SupraGirlie
Six! Just seen you're 23, and you've had 6! I'm 23, and I've had 1, I chose the right one to get though imo! Mind you, we both saw the light and own GZ Aerotops . ...and yeah, which should I drive today, VTS or the Supra.... hm.... toughie! I'd take one look at both and wouldn't care about the petrol. Supra wins hands down. Thinking about aerotops, I had mine off for the first time in ages yesterday, loved it! I think my roof has come off once so far in July, and I stupidly left it off, and went out for the day in another car.. and it started pouring, so i had to race back to put it on lol. It always seems to happen to me, I am always too lazy to put it back on if the sky looks clear, then have to jump out of bed at 2am having been woken up by rain

It always seems to happen to me, I am always too lazy to put it back on if the sky looks clear, then have to jump out of bed at 2am having been woken up by rain lol! The only thing I've been caught out with, is when I put the roof on, drive round the corner and forget to tighten the one bolt that always needs doing twice, and it will absolutely bucket it down, and obviously it finds the tiny gap...and well.... you can guess! Wouldn't be happy getting up at 2am to refit the roof though, bet you were well happy!!! Wouldn't have it any other way though - even if it's only been off one this month, same as you! I think I need to move abroad to take advantage of the aerotop (and petrol!) Anyway, going to do a few hours on the bike. andygood
No it doesn't actually ill have to ask him but probably high but doesnt bother me if im only using as a runaround. Just make sure it has power steering! I have a 96 punto for the winters, which doesn't have it, and it's a real PITA after a summer driving the supe... martini
Thats very good and i don't like putting mileage up on her either Yeh, mine's done an estimated 70,000 miles (92,000 miles on the odo) but I am not too fussed about putting the miles up... I cycle to work daily and would get the train for work-related travel. Does your boyfriend live in Cork? If so, any chance of splitting the drives to fortnightly? Works well for us. SimonT
I had the same problem driving my Soop everyday was killing my pocket so paid £500 for a Mk3 1.6 Astra to smoke down the motorway everyday to work and i can really notice the difference in money i spend each month now! Costs me on average £40-£50 a week to run although annoyingly the tax is exactly the same as my Supra
Dave
ive got a 1.4 saxo its total crap driving so you love the supra when you take it out
Carl_S
My daily run around is my mountain bike Claire. I find it can go places that the supra would not be able to go due to size and legality. For example I bump up the kerb and go into a tunnel via the pedestrian access if there is a red light sometimes. It feels bad but good at the same time. You just couldn't do that in the supe. GreaseMonkey
My daily run around is a Silver 99' Toyota Starlet SR 1.3. I absolutely love it as it's (IMO)the other end of the performance scale from my Supra, it's nippy (But wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding when compaired with the Supra,LOL!.) like a Go Kart around town, and (IMO)good on fuel. I get about 300 miles on about £30/ full tank. Plus I'm not paranoid about driving/ parking it any where, as I am with my Supra. It feels nice to drive my Supra now and then rather than all the time as I dont want to get bored with it. (or so it wont kill my wallet and enthusiasm for it, LOL!.) Kearney
I went this route before when I had the GTR. Bought a 1litre yaris. When I woke up in the morning I still couldnt resist taking the GTR over the yaris for obvious reasons. I only ended up using the yaris when the GTR was off the road LOL. If you to ask yourself would you drive a 1 litre polo to work and back when you have a lovely Supra in your driveway? I couldn't, not a chance. In my eyes if I'm paying 1293 euro a year for tax I'd sure as hell wanna be using the car as much as I can to get my full value for money! Guest ringostarr
I run a twin turbo manual as my only car, i do about 150 miles a day (5 days a week) and about 300 miles at the weekend. Still feels tight and it has done 372k miles. Its worth nothing, but i bought it 6 years ago at 44k miles and nothing has gone wrong. I upgraded the shocks with D2s and have had the turbos reconditioned about 50k miles ago, will do the bushes and re trim the seats in the next year or so. Why would anyone bother with a daily driver, its a Toyota, if you can't afford to run it every day on a commute (if driving makes sense) why buy a supercar? Secondly it keeps the mileage down and therefore the wear and tear and so on. This may save hundreds if not a few grand a year - Looking at your fuel costs alone, you now do 1050 miles per week. Over a year thats (with 4 weeks holiday taken in to account) approx 50,400 miles per year. And with a generous average of 22mpg that's around 2290 gallons of fuel, which @ approx £4.49 per gallon = £10,282 pa in fuel alone. Then there's several sets of tyres £1000-£1500 Servicing & a bit more servicing = ££'s So all in all, a cheap way of doing things. Welcome to the club Thank you To be honest i do a lot of miles, most people do 1/5 of what i do so about £2000 worth of fuel and tyres, no more than an RX-8 or what have you. In regards to servicing and parts needing replacment i'll draw your eyes to my previous comment, it's a toyota. All i've needed to replace is consumables, a set of dampers and springs, some bushes, discs and pads etc. Use it or lose it comes to mind, if your doing 50 miles a week with a big engine like this your not even warming it up. I took the head off mine and its a very light gold i.e. a film over the metal. My mate has had his 10 years and has done 20k miles in that time in it, service every 6 months etc as it is his pride and joy, the engine was very dark "gold", edging black. I know they cost a bit more to run than a focus, but not that much more. The average person would save £1000 a year running a 2.0 mondeo, but as most of the ones my co workers have are new they have already lost £10k in depreciation. I bought mine for £13k and it's worth £3k to the right buyer and who cares i'll keep it going as long as it starts every time and when it dies i'll strip it and sell what i can or sell it whole if it's worth more. If it had a fancy badge on it, it would be a super car, but expensive and unreliable. The supra is a cheap fast car, the only thing i don't like are the looks, i did for the first few years, but as time has gone on it looks worse and worse. But its comfortable, fast, reliable and in the grand scheme of things good value for money.

The supra is a cheap fast car, the only thing i don't like are the looks, i did for the first few years, but as time has gone on it looks worse and worse. I have bought an Astra for my run around to work and i save myself nearly £3000 per year just in fuel let alone having to service the Supra every 5,000 miles or so whereas my Astra needs servicing every 10,000 - 12,000 miles so in that respect if you use reputable parts to service your Supra then that is also a lot of money because i dont put crap oil etc into that car! I just cant see how the Supra is a cheap car at all and im sure the other owners on here would agree with me unless your JamieP who burns tyres and ruins diffs for the fun of it And how does the Supra now look worse i think it has some of the best lines of any cars on the market and again i think alot of people would agree with me on that I know its each to your own and all that but some things in my mind make sense and others just dont
Guest ringostarr
I think the looks are down to me being around it so much, i still love it, but the little things grate after a while. Although i do agree they look better than a lot of modern cars. In regards to being cheap to run, i think it's relative. If you compare it to something like an RX-8 it compares well, and even better agaisnt stuff like big Mercs etc. The cars were built to last, you don't need to change oil every 5,000 miles, i use fully synth Mobil and change it every 9-10k miles, but then it is at low revs on the motorway most of the time although £50 for some oil and a filter every few months is hardly the earth. Fuel is a big thing in this car, but as i said it's all relative to what income you have and your personal circumstances are. But if your doing sub 10k miles a year (like the majority of all drivers) the costs are minimal, if you save £3k a year in fuel then fair enough you do some miles, but how much does it cost to tax, insure, maintain and factor in depreciation on a daily runner? £1500? Tax is about £190 per year a full service on it if i dont do it myself is £195 and it cost me £600 and the depreciation on it is minimal as its already lost all the money on its value it probably ever will! So i think under a grand a year without fuel to run a car is pretty good in my eyes is good as insurance is cheap too and this stops my Supra in my eyes really good condition for its age and keeps it value as well Anyway Claire buy a run around its worth it
