Chris Wilson
My Visa card was recently debited fraudulently to the tune of several hundred quid. The funds were spent at a computer parts place in the east of England. Barclaycard have refunded the money. Am I legally entitled to know who perpetrated this fraud, should Barclaycard find out, or is it considered not an offence against myself, but against Barclaycard? hiten55
you will never find out who did it. we've had loads of fraud done on us at my dads house. each time we report it they deal with it but will not disclose details. suppose it stops "sledge hammer vs. knee caps" incidents.... Chris Wilson
Does anyone know if they actually press charges if they find out who it was? I suspect I know, but would love confirmation.

Yes they will and they pass it to the Police usually. Or they do at HSBC where I used to work as a student on the phones. Also get it back off the retailer I think too. ufop
I had the same thing except they purchased first class plane tickets and I was working when the flights were for and didnt have a passport so it wasnt me! Barclaycard could have tracked down the criminals on CCTV at the airport but I doubt they did :-( I think they must just write off so much money every year when im sure so many of these people could be tracked down very easily and put behind bars!!!! but no we just pay ever higher prices and all carry on great eh I wonder where these people get the card numbers from? That should of been very easy to catch them as there names and details should of been on the tickets what idiot would do that on such a easily trackable fraud. Pete
Pete? For the record I've never seen Mr Wilsons c/card. I didn't realise he even had one. I usually accept payment in liquid form. (That's alcohol for the pervs on here!) My card was abused again recently. Airline tickets etc.
MarkR
I was also done, but luckily the card company was on the ball. No idea if they'll disclose the info or press charges.
ufop
I did ask to be kept upto date on it but barclaycard didnt seem to care about anything and kept asking me if I was sure I didnt buy the tickets for someone else and things lol It really annoyed me that whoever did it should have been so easy to track down! (I guess maybe there were tracked down) this is another reason we pay more for things :-(
Jake
Does anyone know if they actually press charges if they find out who it was? I suspect I know, but would love confirmation. Depends on who you mean by "they". Visa don't but the card issuer often does. (I work for Visa) Some of the issuers have huge anti-fraud teams, others don't seem to think it's worth pursuing. hogmaw
Also get it back off the retailer I think too. Indeed they do. It's the retailer who ends up paying, not the bank or the card issuer. They are just a facilitator between customer and retailer.
Scott
Not sure how much truth there is in this but i read ages ago that it only really gets pursued after hitting a certain figure. Something like 20k before anything serious gets done about the offence. IIRC thats the main reason there is so much credit card fraud going on, and the reason why the sensible CC fraudsters tend not to go nuts with the spending. The 20k is just pulled out of the sky in my part, it just rings a bell. I'm pretty sure there is a figure that, only after which, an investigation is warranted for.
