Charlotte
I think this opens people up for soooo much bad stuff. http://latestnews.virginmedia.com/news/environment/2009/07/26/500_cash_for_reporting_dog_fouling Women being snapped alone....people shopping their friends in for cash (you get fined - £125 and then you get £500 if you spot a fouler)....people getting into fights etc... What do you think?
RedM
Women being snapped alone..... What do you think? Where was that mentioned? I think it's a good idea. I live in the countryside and often find stuff dumped at the roadside especially in some of the quieter lanes. I've rung the council twice while out running an given a reg number. I've never heard anything back nor had any money. I'd be happy to get some lazy c**t fined for not going to the tip.
Charlotte
Where was that mentioned? That isn't mentioned but I can just see the associated stories. Woman walking her dog, gets snapped by a male, male told to leave woman alone.... Plus the other thing is, if someone snapped your dog doing a poop and then not you picking it up where can you prove you picked it up, do you then have to take a picture? I think the evidence will be flawed although I agree, that people need to be responsible for their litter.
Matt H
Like anything there are pro and cons, but £500 may possibly be a bit much for people to simply do it as it happens rather than going out and looking for it. I like it, but the reward it too much.
stevie_b
It's an interesting proposition, not yet decided if it's a good one. It could work if the council have the resources to chase up people who have been reported for not cleaning up after their dog (rather like benefit fraud: you shop the suspect, then the authorities do their own investigating to see if fraud is actually being committed). It couldn't work if they just take members of the public's word for it, far too open for abuse. That would just stink.
tbourner
We've had dog poo in our front garden when the fence was down!! It's horrible but as Charlotte said there's no way to police it, I doubt they'd start doing DNA tests on the doodoo or anything to prove who's dog it was from! What about if it's a runny and you can't pick it all up? Fly tipping is maybe a bit easier but again surely they'll just say "Wasn't me guv" and it's your word against theirs. Animal
We've had a German Shepherd crapping on our lawn for ages. Last week the cheeky sod brought his dog, too. I know - I'll get my coat.
R Black
So you get two criminal types one walks the dog, one shops him & they share £375?
michael
Let's not forget that they also want to extend this to drivers throwing litter from cars... the extra twist being they get points on their license too, even if the it's the passenger that chucks it. Motorists shouldn't throw filth or let their dogs poo out of the window but at the same time the fines should be the same as a those given to a pedestrian or cyclist IMO. Who owns all the birds that keep crapping on my cars? I'd like to see them get a fine!

Animal
Whatever happened to white dog shit? That's what I'd like to know. I think it's because they've stopped grinding bones up to mix in with the dog food. It was white due to all the calcium.
tbourner
Whatever happened to white dog shit? That's what I'd like to know. I have some in my garden if you want me to send you some. Comes from dogs that eat bones, nowadays vets tell us not to feed our dogs table scraps and we should feed them dog food (that they sell ) instead, so no bones generally. tooley
nope no kids at all never will either. my sisters are always trying to offload their kids at my house and the mrs says im great with them but i dont see why you have kids if you are not going to look after them and for that reason i choose not to bring anyone into the world that is going to stop me from doing what i want and not having to compromise
fizzle
how are you going to catch someone throwing litter from cars on camera? use your mobile phone and receive a fine for using it while driving? you could park up at Mc D's on a saturday night with a video camera and make a fortune!! i'm all for reporting fly tippers though, just no need for it.. RedM
Whatever happened to white dog $#@!? That's what I'd like to know. I'm going to email the BNP. British dogs should have white poop not this coloured stuff. Honestly, the country has gone to the dogs etc etc in an Alf Garnett stylee. Chris Wilson
So you get two criminal types one walks the dog, one shops him & they share £375? I like your thinking! I wonder what safety net there is to prevent this, probably none knowing the average local council's deep thinking before enabling yet more legislation when more than adequate by-laws exist. "Councillor Afzal Akram denied the scheme was a "snooper's charter". " He can deny all he likes, it will become unworkable. The award is already couched in typical Labour gobbledegook to hide the fact a full payout is all but risible. He'd be better employed tackling the unpalatable subject of female genital mutilation rife in his borough than a few dog poos on the pavements. Havard
My dog is a shit machine. If I got a quid for every nugget it had dropped in it's 13 years I would have, erm hold on........ tbourner
We call ours '3 poo Loki' now, cos it's his minimum for a walk. He doesn't seem happy unless I'm carrying a full poop bag with me!
benkei
Talk about turning the neighbours against each other. We're going to be living in a society soon where no one talks to or trusts anyone, and people are stabbing each other in the back in return for cash from the Governement. I disagree with people who let their dogs poop everywhere and not clean it up. If I see anyone doing it I always confront them and tell them to pick it up. Thier excuse is usually "I don't have a bag", to which I hand them one (If I'm walking my dogs at the time). Funny how they don't forget the lead when they take the dog out. I think it just comes down to people not wanting to mess with dog poo, in which case they shouldn't have a dog.
