We are definitely a race of stupid people

I agree with you Charlotte. It all seems to come down to the "oooooo, shiney!" level. Not so much deep storylines or great characters like it should be, just lots of explosions and action. Not that I'm complaining, I like action and explosions, cgi, car chases and amazing stunts too, but when the story is hollow and not thought through, then the film will always be lacking.

District 9 looks amazing, and seems to have a good plotline too (from what I've seen) and Surrogates looks interesting too, but I don't think it's anything new.

Like jamesmark said, some awesome films have come from Asia, where as Hollywood is more interested in blowing shit up.

Do you lot not mix your brainless Hollywood rubbish with a bit of Lynch/Bergman/Fellini/Wenders/'any other intelligent film maker' occasionally?

Cool.. i've not caught wind of any of these movies before...being gifted with the art of just watching a film for fun and not trying to find hidden depths or solve all the mysteries before the end of the film.. they all look good to me! WHOOP

Love Peter Jackson anyway.. ever since the early days, when his movies were not exactly thought provoking..

Bad Taste..

Braindead..

Oooh lots of good stuff \o/

I must say I'll probably watch 2012 because I'm a sucker for a disaster movie. I liked Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow (despite the "message" being rammed home with vigour), and more recently Knowing. So I'll have to see 2012 :D It's good brain-off stuff.

District 9 looks the biz. I'll be sure to look for things deeper than "Aliens = immigrants" (you did mean deeper than that didn't you?)

Apparently, despite the world literally falling apart the characters in the film can still get mobile reception.

I'm guessing they aren't on 3 then.

On a more serious note, don't go to see this film unless you enjoy ultra-rich movie execs treating you like idiots and then being sick into your eyes.

having seen district 9, i can say i was very impressed with the film. its a totally different approach to your tpical 'aliens coming to earth' situation.

Braindead is just, well... classic! lol

my tastes in films seem to have head over to japan.

some of the oldies like, Ichi the killer, the original jap version of the grudge, the ring yada yada...

also if you havent seen it, have a chuckle at the happiness of the Katikuris, thats odd to say the least, worth a watch though.

And 2012?

lol, spose being the topic of discussion i should have mentioned something..

tbh, i know sweet f a about the film other than having watched the trailer.

My brother did a hell of a lot of reading into the maya 'long count calander' and other related topics. made for some pretty interesting discussions.

I would say if any date for an apocolypse holds some accuracy, its most likely this date imo. im still not going to hold my breath.

as for 'apocalypse' it may not actualy be doomsday, on the flip hand, could it be ascension? you can pretty much hedge your bets that nothing at all will happen.

Or unless you don't mind a bit of escapism now and again and are quite happy to watch a film that (in the watchers opinion) entertains. I would hate to have to only go to see films that carry some esoteric message or are seen to be away from the mainstream and thus "clever".

Don't get me wrong, I too enjoy films of this nature but I am not so rigid in my choices as to poo poo every other type of film out there.

:) I enjoy some 'really crap' films, and I hate some 'really great' films. Very strange indeed. Perhaps I'm capable of independent thought. Perhaps its just the mood at the time. The Happening one day, Battleship Potemkin another, bring it on...cinema is one of lifes great visual pleasures good or bad....apart from Ben Stiller obviously.
