sprag5
Went to my local Army careers office today to see about starting a career in the armed forces! I am a fully qualified plumber and wanted to move on from where i work now and join the army as an engineer but was told i was over 17kg to heavy to apply Was a bit gutted as i have went to the gym for over 6 years now and have a 48 inch chest and a 36 inch waist, so i dont consider myself fat. I could lose possibly half a stone but was told that wasn't enough. So off the the gym tomorrow to start intensive cardio for a month to see what happens

sprag5
That changed from the minute i walked out of the door! The officer said if i lose 2 stone to go back and have a chat about it, but if i loose more than a stone i think i will start loosing muscle. Will get my bodyfat calculated tomorrow and see where i stand

So off the the gym tomorrow to start intensive cardio for a month to see what happens I went to a regimental reunion last month and ended up having a lunchtime drink with one of the guys who had been on the Princess Annes day parade, he told me almost exactly the same story, told to lose 3 stone and then re-apply. He said it was hard but well worth it and the Army keeps him busy enough to make sure it stays off!!!. Good luck and i'm sure you'll get there sooner than you think. Al Massey
The Army is being tight on admissions at the moment due to the number of people joining because of the recession. If you lose the weight or even muscle you can always put it back on once you are in Good luck on the weight loss and getting in the army too mate
Aero-M
Lets hope you do manage to get in. If your a 48 inch chest and 36 waist and go to the gym lots I would assume you are rather muscular rather than fat? As muscle ways more than fat don't they take Bmi into account, or body fat %? kieren1234
2 Stone is easy to lose dude. I was only 13stone 4 and i have lost 2 stone on my cutting diet in the last 10 weeks. People that are bigger tend to lose it quicker too. whats your current/intended diet?

Guest johnnie
Loosing fat is a lot easier than loosing muscle but that isn't impossible, BTW hope you can make it.
ChrisD89
Ditch any weight training and concentrate on running and swimming with lots of interval training ie. sprints/hill sprints etc. For upper body just bang out push up's, pull up's and sit up's making sure you can lift your own body weight comfortably. If you're into weight training and the like you can take it up again once you're in but I don't think it'll do you any favours in training. Good Luck bud. jacko
Dont they work on BMI, so you can be the fittest person in the world, but if you have too much muscle you'll still be classed as over weight- a mate of mine is in the process of joining the Navy and he has had to stop his weight training because it's making him too heavy
sprag5
Yeah this is my problem. i have spent the last 6 years trying to bulk up and it is bit me in the arse! until recently i was getting paid (not much may i add) to play football so i am quite fit but was told that didnt matter either. But i want it enough so am goin to try my best
ChrisD89
I believe weight must be in proportion to height, but I think they take into account your overall "build". I have heard of quite a few people failing medicals due to being "overweight" though, even if they are seen to be physically fit. I'm currently in the selection process for the Marines and have been advised not to do any weight training, it's all about the running!
