UK Turbo

I have owned this UK six speed car for about 8 years after buying it from the original owner who's a mate and never tracked it or abused it. Since I got it, it has done 6 track days and two Nurburgring days and two long fast trips round Europe. I've always used Mobile 1, changed diff and gear oil each year with Toyota stuff.

Mods include:

• Chip

• APEXI controller

• Exhaust

The question is, at 70,000 miles is there anything that needs to be changed that causes catastrophic failure in these cars - timing gear, turbo's disintegrating into the engine etc that should be changed before this happens?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have heard stories about turbo's vapoizing on higher mileage cars....from people who have never actually owned one.... this is not true then?

The belt, that’s it? This is why i love this car! I sold a 308 Ferrari that needed a valve adjustment or new belt or new clutch every time it went anywhere, overheated if a traffic light turned red and could be embarrassed by a well driven fiesta!

Yes they can and do go, but it's wear and tear. My J-spec has done 100,000 miles and the turbo's are still working fine, I know people have done a lot more miles and the turbo's still be fine. Likewise I know people have done less and had them fail. The car's are now 15 years old, it happens.

I wouldn't say it's common though.

If you wanted to be cautious you could replace the following.

Thermostat

Radiator (lower parts can rot out unseen)

Top and bottom Radiator pipes

(Rapid coolant loss and not stopping straight away could cost you dear.)

Intercooler may be passed it

Rear diff cooler (in drivers side rear brake duct)

None are really necessary as such but if you want to spend some money with an eye on preventing any problems these aren't bad things to consider.
