Guigsy
Hi guys. Im getting married next year in Halifax. Its a small wedding. about 25 people, thats all. Is anyone on here a wedding photographer? Im just looking for some prices. We aint looking for a massive album of 400 pictures. Just a few nice ones arround the grounds where we are getting married, us, the family, the actual wedding that kind of thing. The standard "no frills" price seems to be 500-1000 quid. Which to be honest is 2/3rds the price of hireing the venu! including food, the actual ceremony and a few things ontop like a day in a spa for the the bride and hotel room for the night Seems to me to be a bit of a ripoff! Ive got a couple of friends who are good with cameras but only do it as a hobby who im going to ask. But the wife to be would prefer a professional. But as this place is always so helpfull i figured i'd ask on here.
Thorin
Lot of money for a day's work isn't it! It's something I wouldn't mind getting into, nice little earner in the summer months. Might have to go do a photography course or something. I don't know of anyone to recommend in the area, but I'd say it's worth paying for a professional though. Our photographer just gave us copies of the original photo's on a DVD, we could then sort out an album ourselves rather than paying a premium for one through the photographer. Much better option IMO, especially if you're familiar with cropping/fixing photos in photoshop etc.
Tom
I've done a couple but I won't do any again, it's worth paying out imo, the two I did were family friends as they didn't want to spend out and although the pics did come out great I was heavily relying and praying! on good weather on the days and I felt massivly amature compared to a pro as they normally have an assistant who will aid shots in lighting and organise people for the photos plus the photographer has the nagging back of the head feeling (I hope my camera memory card doesnt fail or camera stops working!) so they will have a backup camera, or should have anyway it's much easier now than it would have been back with film camera's but you've only got 1 shot to get it right so there is a lot of pressure on the photgrapher. Abz
I've got an SLR cam but do this more of a hobby, my colleague is very good and his level is boarder like with professional. He has taken a lot of model photo's and does have his own website, his done a few weddings as well. In fact hopefully looking to get married next year mate and he will be doing my photography (will be typical asian wedding 200 guests). He gets in soon, so I'll discuss it with him and let you know. michael
I did the photos for a wedding once, like others I wouldn't do it again. I've only ever been to one wedding in Halifax, it was here: http://www.holdsworthhouse.co.uk I've asked the chap in question who his photographer was (he seemed quite good and pics were OK) but he can't remember, is trying to find out for me. jacko
I work next door to a photographic studio, but it's a bit far away from Halifax. But i agree you are better off getting a professional, because could you bear the earache from the Mrs if someone cocked up the pictures of your big day! My cousin got married recently and they had a pro photographer, but the photos were shocking, so your definately best going with a recommendation from someone
GazB
I've done 3 weddings some years ago before digital cameras printing of pictures was quite expensive along with £80/90 for a good photo album. When we had all the pictures my wife sorted and selected the ones for the album (took a bit of thought and quite a bit of time getting them set right on the pages etc). I then handed over the album and the other prints, if they wanted more prints or enlargements it was up to them to sort. Things have changed now with digital and should be alot cheaper to do. I did my weddings at £300 each but it was 10 years ago Doing it full time was was thought about but i played rugby on a Saturday and didn't want to give that up

michael
What a coincidence.... Thats where were getting hitched What was it like? Were going to visit next week. Thanks for the help mate Very nice place indeed, I was a bit concerned on the approach because it seemed to be on an industrial estate but once you get past it's like being in a little countryside escape. Reassure your other half if she looks concerned when you turn off the main road I was really impressed with the place, lots of old charm and they looked to have made a real effort to make the day special for them. Good beer too. The main thing I liked was that there were lots of small rooms to escape too if you wanted, you weren't stuck in one big area with Granny Wiggins and annoying Uncle Sid and his 43 kids, plenty of opportunity to obtain booze from different bars. With the nice building and gardens I think it would be pretty hard to fail on wedding photos there but someone who knows the place would really get the best out of it IMO, might be worth speaking to them and using their own people if they have them. Guest Garfy
stay well away from a company called VIP photography we used him, absolutly fantastic on the day, can't fault him there, but, more than 2 years on and we still haven't got the photo's, we have even taken him to court over it, still no joy, it has been the only thing that went wrong now, and to be honest I don't even want the photo's now, all I'll remember when looking at them is how much hassle it was to actually get them
