foodfreak
Well, after 3 years & near on 40k miles, my turbo decided it's had enough. big cloud of smoke, bye bye:bang:. The question is.....do I keep with the T61 or go for a T67. I do like the early spool of the T61, but, it's allways tempting to have that little bit more:innocent:, so.....your thoughts folks? Scooter
Never owned a single and never likely to! but i would say your "3 years and 40K miles" comment would make me think 1) you were happy with it and 2) there's no reason you couldn't enjoy another few years by just replacing it with a like for like turbo...... ............I admit thats the dull approach/outlook
Homer
As Scooter said really, if you're happy with the T61 then it might not be worth the extra expense of changing it. That said, the T67dbb will spool near the same, but packs more punch at the higher end. What cams do you have? Only downside is the extra plumbing for the water cooling, plus the mapping. foodfreak
kept with the stock VVTi cams ( for the low end torque) & the HKS v-pro can handle the change to a T67 if required. It will obviously be a lot cheaper to have the T61 Re-built.
Pig
Sod cheaper, it's a great excuse for a change!
j_jza80
The remapping on the Fcon will cost you too.
tooquicktostop
Sorry to hear this but it has been fairly trouble free and you drive it in London every day so it has gone well, hope its just the turbo thats gone I would try the T67 only if you crave more power but I remember you always saying yours was fast enough for you ? dude
Try a 61 with a billet wheel, they are supposed to make the same power as a 67 but with the spool of the 61.
foodfreak
'hope its just the turbo thats gone' Me too Dean, I'll pull it apart this afternoon. I think it is 'just' the turbo, no rattles, knocks or misfires. just lots of smoke

foodfreak
managed to get the afternoon off, so I hit the spanners, Straight turbo failure, exhaust wheel had come apart from the cartridge....due to wear..who knows. There wasn't any debris in the cartridge oil chamber. Compressor side is perfect, still spins nice & smooth with no play. ho hum, still deciding what to replace it with. edit, damage was from bouncing around the exhaust housing
