Clunk from rear wheel

Hey

I've been getting a clunk from my rear drivers side wheel since last summer. The clunk only happens at low speeds going over bumps. At first it was only happening going over speed bumps or pot holes, but now it's happening over the slightest bump. It's also started creaking slightly when pulling to a stop slowly or pulling away slowly. The opposite corner (passenger rear) sits 1" lower than every other corner... so I dunno if that's anything to do with it.

The rear can also feel very light at times. I also get quite a bit of wheel spin and even some wheel hop in the wet. A hard launch can see the back end spin. That's even with RLTC on Wet when it's a lovely dry day. I need to pull away carefully to keep it going straight.

I did hit a curb pretty hard with that wheel last summer, so I think I might have bent or damaged something.

I've had it into several garages since the summer, but none of them have been able to find anything wrong. I've also jacked the car up myself and tried to shake the wheel, but there's no play at all, so I think that rules out the wheel bearing.

Any ideas guys?

Also, would the car sitting lower on one corner, plus these noises, be the reason for the poor handling?

It so happens I have exactly the same problems as this (even the RLTC one). Up to date Ive replaced the boot rubbers and the wheel bearings. My next replacement is the lower control arm. (I noticed when replacing the wheel bearings there was some play). If you want to wait a few weeks til I get them changed, Ill tell you if this worked. I wish I had noticed the play before I spent £350 on Rear bearings / seals.

I ordered 2 new shocks for the rear yesterday... I can see my diagnosis having the same result as you changing the bearings :(

Definately interested in the control arm outcome though. I saw that getting mentioned in a duscussion about rear wheel noises over on the american forum.

been trying for ages to sort it,

I have ruled out the brakes/bearings/shocks/lower control arm.

Gona try the spherical ball joint bushes next.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I have the same "clunk" at low speeds from the rear right. All of the following replaced new: shocks, spring seats and boots, lower control arm bushings, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, brake rotors and pads. Only thing not changed to new on that side is wheel bearings, ball joints and upper control arm bushings. The upper control arm was removed and the bushings feel solid and there is no rough movement. On the car the control arm had zero lateral play. Also no play at all in the wheel bearings. Ball joints checked OK at MOT. I'm stumped:( Hope you guys figure it out.
