M25 Speed camera a bit trigger happy

Just to warn you guys the first gantry camera going anti clockwise after the M3 junction of the M25 is flashing at 80mph, not sure if this is a problem with its set up but I have been flashed going under it and I was cruising dead on 80. I will of course go to court and argue it out if anything comes through but just a prior warning for everyone.

Well people have got away with doing much higher speeds and they say its always worth taking anything like this to court, taking into consideration the time of night it was and the speed I was doing, combined with my clean license I would try and urge the judge that it was unfair and plead for leniency, I've got a pretty good brief who should be able to sort this out.

Assuming you would not be in danger oif a ban (due to points etc) wouldn't it be prudent just to accept a reletaively small fine and 3 points rather than go through the whole expense of court and a brief? I would be very surprised if the brief (no matter how good he was) could get you off scot free.

I'd argue it as, your speedo probably over reads...so if you were in fact doing 77mph you were inside the 10% +3mph rule that used to apply because speedo's can't be 100% accurate.

It's actually 10% +2 (mph) but the Association of Chief Police Officers voted to get rid of that last year.

But its still generally accepted. Thats why the new M4 cameras are set up for 79mph and above.

Gnerally i thought the M25 gantry cameras were only operational when the variable speed limit is in effect. I might not be sure on that one though!

If ther camera only flashed once then you weren't done.

nah it defo flashed twiced, and yes my understanding was they are only active when the variable speed limit kicks.

Im not too fussed since im clean on the license side of things so 3 points wont be too bad, I will still go to court and argue the toss though :) I will probably go for the 10% rule and see what happens. :violin:

This might sound a tad stupid, but would would your argument be? I assume it is a 70 MPH limit? :conf:

usually the cameras are only on when they're enforcing a limit, which ISNT 70.. more like 50/60 for traffic calming.

It you went through it at 80 you havent got a leg to stand on!

They are only suposed to be on when the varible speed limits are in operation.

If your speedo reads 80 you were prob only doing 75 if that, as most speedo's read userly 8% + of the actual speed you are doing.

I dont know 'Anyone' who has actually been done as a result of being flashed by the variable Speed Gatso Gantry cameras and thats when a Variable Speed limit is in operation...

So relax he he

I have been flashed by them several times whilst Variable Speed Limits are in operation and never recieved anything through the post.

Though I dont advise anyone should put this to the test ...just in case.

:p

Thats the thing Bobeh dude there was no variable spped limit on at the time, it was just national speed limit hence why this is strange.

Si, thought so, I have been through the at 90 leptons + at times and sometimes been flashed and nothing has happened, come to think of it I actually dont know anyone who has ever been 'NIP'ed'
