Irish Police crack down -- exhaust 80 decibels

Saw that earlier. Shouldn't it be part of the feckin NCT if it's such a big deal? Surely there's better things to be spending cash on at the moment than bloody sound meters for Mr Plod?!

Sounds like another revenue-generating exercise to me... rant>

A stock 911 GT3 is around 98db IIRC.

80 is VERY quiet. My friends RX7 is 94 on idle from 1.5m away and that's with a cat in!

Just goin by Paul whiffin & Nic's info on whats available, I think a quiet exhaust for a supra is around 89 DB

Depends on mods though doesn't it? A decatted one will be louder than a stock, and a single louder still (usually).

For info mine before I had the screamer pipe connected into the downpipe (and thus the silencers in the exhaust) and before I changed from HKS Ti/Carbon exhaust to the Tanabe, my drive-by at WOT was 120db :D

:taped:, to be honest I think they are after the idiots in the civics and junkers running 180db exhausts

It is ridicolous and far too loud, you can hear them miles away

I am sure an Aston Martin, Ferrari's , M3's , M5's are all very over 80db

There's been a similar thread on here recently about the same kind of story in the UK.

But there's one thing that I'm asking myself: is there or is there not a legal noise level measured in decibels for car exhausts?

I think the whole thing is a bit obscure, or I'm maybe missing something?

Someone got fined £30 for a 93db exhaust.

Vehicle noise levels should be between 82 and 89 decibels and background noise between 50 and 60 decibels.

The first £30 fixed penalty ticket was issued after a vehicle exhaust was measured at 93 decibels.

Over here it is a 2500 fine or 3 months in prison
