Class One
I'm a (gulp) Police Constable with the Met, 13 yrs service. Before that I worked as a Customs broker clearing commercial goods through Customs. I left school with 4 O levels and 3 CSE's and graduated in the School of Life. Professionally i have additional qualifications, but they're in house so to speak and wouldn't mean much in the real world anyway!

Would those qualifications be what the "Class One" refers to then?
Angie
Went to college did 3 A levels, Then studied to be a TV camera operator and editor, with the BBC and Princes Youth Trust. But the BBC were going through a few problems and stopped the course due to a lack of funds, giving us just 6 months to finish the course and we would not know the result until the year after. (I Did Pass, but technology and equipment has changed so much, I wouldn't know what to do now!) Then I decided to do a 3 year course in Beauty Therapy and have now run my own Beauty Therapy business for over 9 years. I love my job and love being my own boss! Any body fancy a BC&S wax? Dash Rendar
Went to uni and got a degree in biochemistry. How useful. Now I'm a 'senior software developer'... which has absolutely nothing to do with biochemistry. I do some web design on the side. And I don't get paid enough. Nothing at all to do with IT, except it is apparently my job to satisfy directors demands for 3g datacards, blackberry's and anything else they suddenly decide they needed yesterday hmmmmmmmmmm oooo and I did go to Uni - the best part being my year out on industrial placement Well I work for BT selling 3G Cards, Blackberries, SK65's etc. How_supra want any more ?? always looking to make some more money. martynb
Another notch for the IT counter then, but didn't bother with Uni as I couldn't see the point. Spent a few years as an insurance underwriter which was ultimately boring and switched careers when I was 30 ish into IT. Winged it all the way to board level

how_supra
Well I work for BT selling 3G Cards, Blackberries, SK65's etc. How_supra want any more ?? I didn't know BT did blackberry's! The trouble is with blackberry's is that we don't actually have a proper server so we have to use an email exchange server. Our directors complain all the time but they refuse to payout the money on the BES in order to get the best out of them. Don't even get me started on the 3g cards............. martynb
How do u just switch careers like that??? Is IT slowing down now? Anyone want to take on an IT apprentice Well it wasn't as easy as it sounds - we were having a bespoke system written for us and I was the only one there who really knew anything about computers. For about 3 years I was actually doing two jobs which was heavy going but worth it in the end. IT was a lot more interesting in those days as well, Microsoft hadn't got a total stranglehold on the software market and there were loads of competing solutions for whatever you wanted to do (admittedly many of them were cr*p). I would say IT is picking up if anything, rather than slowing down. No vacancies at the moment I'm afraid
