adnanshah247
well my valve seals seem ko'd. the car lets out a decent sized blue puff every time i either, rev to pull off while the engine is on and stand still and it lets the smoke out on start. once running and driving no smoke at all. running a single that i drive pretty hard i think i should get the work done before i damage anything...... my questions are:- 1. is this why my car is gradually using tiny bits of oil. 2. do leaky valve seals dent the overall power output of the car? 3. my mechanic said get a head gasket kit because the valve seals come with it. is this true? 4. what is the best kit to get that will sort my problem? 5. while the work is done, the head is off, should i do anything else while its all taken apart? i know the head will need to be skimmed but anything else? thanks. p.s. JamieP and Ashbhp, mention my warm up techniques and ill kik ur a$$'s! (i promise ever since then ive not revved the nuts off it and let it warm up perfectly and cool down.) absz
you can replace the seals without removing head. the stems seals can be bought separate. good luck:d

stevie_b
5: why would the head need to be skimmed? I thought that was only when the engine overheats, and the head warps (hence needs skimming to bring it back to a flat surface).

heckler
hey? arent the valves under the engine head??? if the headgasket comes out wouldnt it be best to put that in as well? the valves are, but the seals are under the shims and are accessable by taking the cams, and shims etc out... (i promise ever since then ive not revved the nuts off it and let it warm up perfectly and cool down.) Yup I have also witnessed your warm up first hand, I would have to say that your Valve stem seals are nacked due to this.

(i promise ever since then ive not revved the nuts off it and let it warm up perfectly and cool down.) TBH mate that was the dumbess thing I've seen a forum member do. I thought you had a problem - I didn't realise you were doing that deliberately. Do you know how to warm up an engine properly? (Genuine question I'm not taking the piss I just don't want to see you end up with big problems like this again!)

(Genuine question I'm not taking the piss I just don't want to see you end up with big problems like this again!) no seriously beyond a joke, i just said that because it was the first thing that came to my head. i always since day one on all my turbo cars, allow the car to easily warm up and cool down before i switch on and off. the only thing i didnt know was that excessive revving of the engine is unhealthy for it, you know i think it was jamie saying that getting the cars engine to the rev limiter was really bad. but i never used to push the car to the limiter anyways. think about it steve, that bit when i was revving, i had been out about 5 minutes before hand, the engine didnt need warming up, it was already warm. i done a lot of reading but i think i have had a genuine fault rather than foooking about and causing issues with the car. Homer
You drive like a C0ck so i say it's your fault!!! Sorry Adnan, but with the stuff I've seen on vids you're going to blow something before long. The turbo is likely first... If the valve seats are shot it'll need the head off and rebuilt. Expensive, but do it right and it should see you some years useage. Are you still using antilag? That isn't going to help things! Hope you have deep pockets, without a hole in them

Robert
Go ahead, was fine the day you fitted it and mapped it, it was after you went on a stupid MJ cruise it broke, don't blame me!!
adnanshah247
i think i went a little ott that night. anyways, going to get all the work done now so should have a fresh piece of kit for ryan to map up for me.
Guest exceed
Whoa fuck me mate, you don't just rev an engine up from cold... Lol I guess you've caught the problem before it grew too big though, so kudos for that. And add an oil temp gauge (or map in more safety parameters) so that you know when you can rev it up (although even when hot its not ideal to hold it at the limiter!). Lol sounds like something I would have done in my first car!!

caseys
Hey Adnan, Just had my head rebuilt after getting slowly more and more smokey with valve stem seals. I thought if I took it in for an MOT with that going as it was I'd just be taking the p***. That and my rear crank seal was leaking. After having the head taken off we found out how damn coked up it was, I was only going to have the valve stem seals replaced but whilst the head was off I got the intake and exhaust valves done (some even replaced). The head had a nice old clean whilst it was out too. Also an ARP kit and all gaskets would be a good idea whilst you're at it? I'm just about to put up a little thread in Supra Chat showing the work, I'll add a link when I've done it.
dude
Do NOT get the head skimmed unless it absolutley needs it dude, if your oil seals are bad the chances are that the exhaust side will be full of nice hard carbon and as in caseys case!!! the exhaust valves and seats will be badly pitted. Fair enough cheif. I know you've put a lot off time & effort into th car and none of us like bills we can avoid. You know you're doing something bad if even JamieP is saying he wouldn't do it! BTW it may surprise you but I didn't track your every move at Llandow so didn't know if you'd driving about, on track or elsewhere. I just heard the revving, was confused, and then let you get on with it.
