keancy
Last night my Hubby ran a Windows update and then shut down his PC. When he put it on this morning his Keyboard has disappeared and won't work at all. When he checked the Devices and isn't recognising a keyboard at all. His Mouse works fine and the PC boots normally into Windows. He also tried my Keyboard and the same thing happened. Both our Keyboards are not USB but the Pin Connectors. Anyone else having this problem and does anyone know what has happened?? I ran the same update on my PC last night but as I am at work I haven't yet been able to check if my PC still works or not. I did run the very same update on my Works PC before I went home last night and it is working perfectly fine but this keyboard here is a USB Connector one. Have borrowed a USB Keyboard from our IT department to try later today but any advise in the meantime would be appreciated.
stevie_b
I think you're doing the right things (i.e. try a USB keyboard). It's an unusual problem you have. The problem must be either that XP itself has lost its keyboard driver (unlikely), or there's a physical problem with the keyboard connector on your PC (even more unlikely!). If you boot into any non-windows environment (e.g. the BIOS, a DOS floppy disk, an XP installation CD, etc) you can see if the computer lets you type anything using the PS/2 (i.e. the old style of connector) keyboard. If it does, it proves the keyboard and connector are all OK and that the problem must be within XP itself. I suspect you may need to re-install the keyboard driver. An XP installation CD may allow you to do that, but I'm not sure off the top of my head.
DamanC
You want the easiest solution? *hates to say it* Use a restore point.
