In the End I've spent about 800 us dollars, maybe 600 pounds, The car looks much better feels much better and much more responsive, It sounds mean, too mean actually. the great thing is that the obx system comes with an adjustable insert, which actually really works well at low load, this morning I set off my neighbors car alarm in the underground garage and felt terrible, coming home tonight I put the baffle in before leaving the pub where I met some friends for the weekly pub quiz (Just to fend off any drinking and driving remarks, I had 1 kilkenny at 7pm, then A steak dinner a milk shake and 2 cokes before leaving at 11:30pm which with my weight of 90kgs would make my blood alcohol level = feck all!) as i drove home, the noise was about the same level as my skyline, when I'm puttering about at night trying not to wake anyone.

Honestly I think it was all money well spent, The only thing I don't like is the mid range (2.5-4k rpm) sound, It's too loud and a bit raspy so I feel like a knob when the entire street turns and looks when leave a stoplight at more than about 25% throttle. I plan on replacing the mid pipe with the stock mid pipe and second cat this weekend. the oval shape of the pipe and the cat should make a serious dent in the Db levels but cost me some flow, I'll be chopping up the new midpipe to install a high flow cat and a resonator (maybe 2) to keep it legal and quiet without affecting the flow much.

I've always refered to basic breathing mods on a n/a as 'stage 1'. They're the basic mods required ot help performance. Anytihng after that involves cams and such, which is where it starts getting very expensive, and I've never been able to justify the cost to the gains. Good discs and pads are a must, on both n/as and turbos alike. Going fast is great, but being able to stop is better. Same with tyres, you need ot be stuck to the road in order for your brakes to be most effective.

I've never used Ebay specials as I belive that you get what you pay for, They're cheap for a reason, and engine's are expensive. And torque never bothered me too much... It's a Honda, they don't have any to start with :p

Granted, modifications on turbos are a lot more noticable, and power does come a lot easier, due to the turbo, but n/as still have their place, and a good breathing set up does help. The OP seems to be happier with his mods, so all is good.

As long as moddifications are available for n/as, people will buy them.

Back to the OP - liking the mods so far, the exhaust looks nice  would like to see it from a higher angle though.

I'll try to get a picture for you this weekend,

I have a set of powerslot cryo treated drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads (Street not race) in the boot waiting to go on this weekend, I have already put on a set of General Exclaim UHP W rated tires.

I have been using the same discs and tires on the Skyline (full race pads though) for three years with no problems whatsoever. I agree 100% that tires and a good disc and pad combo are the first mods anybody should make. The brakes just took longer in the post than everything else:p

@Homer First post edited to reflect your concerns, Please delete posts 2,3,4,5,7,8,9,13,15......etc, Hell delete just about everything not posted by me, Benkei or Scooter, Oh and change the title, I cant do it and its missing the p in completed,

I've been trying to make up something technical sounding as a definition for "comleted" but can only come up with "the p on my netbook sticks so it doesn't always work

Edit: Lbm here. I've changed the title for you by adding the missing "p"

As for trimming your thread, I'll let Homer to look at this :)

The acronym BPU(Basic Performance upgrade) Meaning simple breathing mods to an engine, was NOT developed for the Supra TT and has been around since the 60's it is Not exclusive to you! It's not a trademark so just deal with it.

Tell Mark Tozer that.

Hey all, I just wanted to shed some light on whats doable with the NA supra before going all out na-t or tt swap. I want mine to remain NA for reliability reasons as it's my daily driver. I already have a fast 400+bhp temperamental Skyline.

OK so you've got the Skyline for the power, and the Supra is for reliability... why are you trying to get more power out of the NA then?

No one is knocking the guy for trying, but you've missed the entire point of throwing good money after bad.

Spanking nearly a grand on an NA and getting near zero performance increase along with inevitable reliability issues is not a good spend. If the guy wants reliable performance, then stock TT is the only way to go. It's cheap to do, has uber reliabilty and costs no more to run. If the NA performance is okay then leave the thing alone rather than waste money on useless changes.

Maybe I'm just being too logical about this...

Just thought Homers post deserved quoting again.

Why would Toyota have bothered with an n/a version if the TT is so much better?

Yeah, and for that matter why did Ford bother with the 1.3 litre Escort when the Cosworth was so much better?

Boo hoo, poor you, these nasty people just don't understand.

Nice shiny exhaust though. I'd just stick with cosmetic mods.

The only NA's in the 14's for the quarter have had the sort of work done to them that Gman has done.

You will (airbox mod probably unnecessary-just get a Toms/K&N etc panel filter) get a faster NA doing these mods.

Whether the money spent vs the performance increase is worth it that is up to the individual.

Visual and sound difference between TT Supra and n/a Supra is nothing, looking at them, you cannot tell, visual and sound difference between Coswoth Escort and 1.3 Escort is beyond obvious.

Can't be bothered reading through 5 pages but if you're after a 'bit' more power a few of the US owners and even the Japs use individual throttle bodies, which unfortunately will have to be custom made and means ££££'s. There was an NA supra from Japan that Nic on here posted up which made 400hp with simular mods but massive cams and high compression.

Found it:

Sorry for the delayed reply, have been away for a few days. I don't want to remove anything from this thread, it's a good discussion, though with obviously differing points of view (good discussions always have those!).

I personally disagree with the direction taken from a pure expenditure vs gains point of view, but don't take it personally, it's just a fact based feedback. If you want to modify your NA by all means go for it, just wanted to present to you the alternatives from a cost POV.

My car did a 14.87 and that just has a catback and hks induction kit. What made the difference IMO was the coilovers, car took off alot better. Although I'd heavy 18's on the car too.

I'm the same myself, my SZ pulls with ease away from my mates EK9 Civic Type R and his has a few spoon goodies on it. Then also I went against a pop up light Celica GT4, it was stock, but the supra still came out ontop :) And the celica was on a dragstrip against me

I've eye withnesses for those things too ;)

Also when I was out on track my car was setting better times around mondello than a 95 semi track set up sir civic, and they are ment to be fast and nimble?

It suprised a lot of people. People expect N/a supras to be slugish and slow because they are heavy etc. 0-60 in 6.5 secs in not sluggish at all.

As I mentioned in a previous thread I worked for lotus for 2 years and drove and exige s and elise around the same track on numberous occasions, also along with that an OPC (VXR) corsa I owned myself and an M3. So I can compaire other cars to it. Definetly the way between it been rwd and very wide and low centre of gravity with a straight power curve made it a very well balanced car IMO.

N/A FTW :D

Good work Gman, keep us posted :)

Guys, I,ve just come back from a trip to the Nurburgring in my Supra, here is what i have to report all of these took place With three adults in the car!

1)my NA auto has no problem pulling away from new the civic Si, as well as every other fanboy in a chaved up civic regardless of type (including a type R) who pulled up behind me on the autobahn to have a go,

2)MK V Golf GTI guy was alone in the car and we were climbing a steep grade, he kept up until the auto went into 3rd and the got left behind very quickly

seeing as that is a 200hp, 1300kg manual transmission car with lets say 80-100kgs of driver vs a 1460kg Automatic with at least 250kg of people(I am a bit heavier than I'd like at 95kg My friend is nearly identical in height and build but his GF is a tinly little thing who is actually comfortable in the back seat of the supra)

3) Audi A5, single driver who gunned it to overtake me, so I just hammered down, he hung with me a bit but then just got left behind,

I am sure that the money I've spent on these simple (I believe Gaz6002 called it Imaginary performance upgrades) was well spent.
