Stonkin Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 My right knee is having an arthroscopy op next friday. Its been giving me grief for 18 months since it took a knock doing a sponsored walk in the alps. If I walk for about 30 mins or so, it will become very ‘heavy’ and ache just under the knee cap, cant run for more than 5 or 10 mins or will be limping for hours. Sometimes when I put weight on it it just disappears for a split second, then aches for couple of hours. In last few weeks ive had an xray, mri and a bone scan on the knee, hips and spine and none of these have showed anything up. So, its camera time. CJ Posted July 16, 2009 Share Posted July 16, 2009 I had this procedure done on my left knee about 3 years ago. I was having a lot of problems with my knee and they needed to clean out some floating debris and repair a damaged cartilage. I had the operation at about 8.00am and they had me up and walking about at 12.00 noon. If I remember rightly, the knee was back to full functionality within 2 weeks. Animal Posted July 16, 2009 Share Posted July 16, 2009 I had to have one in my shoulder and that was no bother at all. It was done under a local anaesthetic and I was in and out within a few hours. Burna Posted July 16, 2009 Share Posted July 16, 2009 Had a couple done, first one was agony afterwards as they had scrapped smooth all the surfaces and I was in hospital for I think two nights. They make you weight bear while you use your crutches before they release you, I have a high pain threshold but I can tell you it was a killer The second one was worlds apart from the first, I was a day patient so went in the morning and was put under, woke up and had a drink and a biscuit Then walked out! Knee was only slightly sore! Was dreading going for the second one after the pain of the first but the second one was just to remove a lump of bone that they had missed on the first one a couple of years before. I have it in a jar I get the feeling Stonkin that yours is just exploratory so you will walk away just fine. Are you in over night or day patient? If you've got a bed for the night then they may sort it while you're under. I need mine doing again as it still isn't right, I reckon mine is cruciate ligament but I need to book an MRI and then if it is I've to try and survive 9 weeks off work with no sick pay I can't see me getting it done any time soon for that very reason. supspower Posted July 16, 2009 Share Posted July 16, 2009 Likewise as above had this done twice on my right knee once when iwas 16 and again 20. Out the same day usually though the 2nd time is was quite painful. Had chiped abit of bone off the back of the knee cap. Only thing i still have problems with is that might right knee wont straighten as much as my left knee. Ark Posted July 16, 2009 Share Posted July 16, 2009 I had an exploratory arthroscopy 18 months ago. In and out in a day, no need for painkillers afterwards, walking fine in less than 2 weeks. Burna, im not booked in for an overnight, go in at 12 and they said i'll be going home by dinner time. So hopefully as you say will be an easy one. Thanks for everyones replies. movistar Posted July 31, 2009 Share Posted July 31, 2009 Had my third done 2 weeks ago...dont worry its not painfull, well has never been for me.I was walking the dog the next day, no stiches for the op now just strips for 10 days. Good tip 4 u, if you want a shower after, i used cling film aroung my leg to keep the water out of the dressing..it worked really well. I think iam getting addicted to operations as i really love the feeling after, when you are waking up. I Still have to have an acl replacment yet, that not so good so i have heard :-( Good luck! I'm scared $hitless of doctors and hospitals! I have problems with my right knee as in that if i kneel down to pick something up i can not put full weight on my legs and need to hold something. I find it extremely painfull to lift myself back up and normally feel like my knee is full of air and the knee cap is grinding. Feels like it needs some WD40 in their but i will not get it checked incase i need a OP....which i also need one on my nose because it is broken but also have been chickening out of that for a few years now.
