Fairford Airshow 2009

Saturday was great, though yet again got sunburnt!

The Vulcan was fantastic to see, they didn't pull too many hard manoeuvres but sounded great when they opened it up.

The F18's were very good, especially the one that did the fly past at the speed of sound (had the air pressure cone at the front and all, first time I've ever seen that in real life).

The Dutch F16 was very entertaining and sure gave it some stick!

Was also impressed with the French "Rafale" plane, never heard of it before, but seemed to have great manoeuvrability.

B52 was boring, guess they don't do much in them since the 1994 incident!

All in all a great day out and for £35 a bargain

It was a good day out, apart from sitting in traffic for the first two hours of the display, but once we got in it was worth it.

Awesome to see the Vulcan flying again. Was a bit suprised they put the Red Arrows on so early, so everybody watched the aerobatic teams that followed them saying "well they arent as good as the Red Arrows" lol

I'll post a few pics up if people are interested?

Trust me, you don't need to. They let anyone in these days! People fail fitness tests when they join up, and continue their training. Dunno how that works....

lol fair enough- i'll try and make it that i dont get out of breath walking up the stairs, thats a start..... Then i have to decide what i actually want to do in the RAF!

thats not true anymore.......... trust me;)

Sorry to bring up an old thread...

...trust me, they do! A brand new AMM on my shift hasn't passed it once, and I had another 2 chubby little guys on my old shift who hadn't passed in addition to more I'm sure. Unless they've just changed it literally in the last week!

Apparently you need to pass the test to clear out of the air force as well, and I know many people who haven't and have pulled the yellow and black handle....

Just don't join up as an AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic) unless you can deal with being treated like a little kid and don't mind doing sh*t jobs! Luckily I joined up before that scheme came in, but I see it every day...

Great photos by the way. I had a look around that orange F16(?) a few days back when it was at my workplace. Vulcan took off right next to me as well when I was working on the car... yep, still loud. Sort of used to it though as I work on one of the loudest aircraft around!
