Paul
We have six cases confirmed on one of our other sites... I won't be visiting there for a bit!? Couldn't you just pop in and give them all a hug ? ;)
Terminator
because were a huge nation of moaners? get it at work, some one mentions there ill then 3 more are off next day. tescos cold and flu tablets and carrying on working is the best and quickest way to get over it! i havent had a day off ill for 2 yrs! That is the worst health advice I have ever heard. Not had a day off in 2 years, what a hero, put a zero on that, then brag about it. If you have "real" flu the tables will do bugger all. I had flu once in my life about 35 years ago, it was terrible, never felt so ill. I could not drag my self out of bed for a week, let alone work. What most people call flu is just a bad cold, if you can stand up and get dressed with out falling over, you have not got flu. If you have got flu, going back to normal activities too soon, can be very dangerous. Our local postman 29 years old, went back to work too early after contracting "real" flu and died of a heart attack. The virus attacked his heart according to the coroner. Guigsy
i had "real flu" while i was at uni. i could barely walk into the kitchen to get a drink. I had to get my mate to bring me food and water. Not that i ate much. Then when i missed my deadline for some coursework i had to hand in i asked for an extention (after i got better)... The bitch gave me 1 day, while saying "do you ahve a doctors note" no, i couldnt get out of bed. im better now what the fuck is a doctor going to give me a note for? Then she said "you had all this time to ask for an extention but now its the deadline so im only giving you one day" How am i supposed to get into uni when i cant get out of bed :S. 1 day extention when i had missed a week and a half because i could hardly move. I hated that woman
hogmaw
The only time I have had flu was 20 years ago when I worked at pharmaceutical factory producing flu vaccine. Oh the irony!
AndrewOW
I only ever had flu symptoms when I was a kid, and high temperatures (up to 104 etc), which wipes you out for days, so the full blown thing must be quite nasty indeed.
Terminator
I think the fact that a local, normally healthy GP, who thought he was getting better, has died from swine flu, this week end, is very worrying. With any flu it will unfortunately, take the lives of people who have other health problems. This virus appears to be nastier than they first thought, as some deaths don't fit the underlying health issues pattern, it is claiming fit and healthy individuals, with no known health issues. If it still around, this winter, which it will be, then it may well be much more virulent than it is now, with a much higher death rate. Speculation !!!! The worst case prediction is that if its around in the autumn/winter it will be much worse, but it hasnt happened yet so we dont know. But you did say "may well" so i will let you off.
Carl_S
Interesting sh!t. Everyone knows someone who knows someone who knows someone, at the very least, who has had swine flu. Not scared yet. Rather now than 300 years ago.
Tannhauser
Mrs. T went on her second trip to the docs today. He said that it's likely she has swine flu, but they can't tell for certain without further analysis, and they won't do that unless she is hospitalised. She has a constant headache, aching joints, high temperature, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, sore throat, and is exhausted by the slightest exertion. I've never seen her so ill and it has been very unnerving. She's now into the second week and is only now feeling a bit more human. The suggestion that all that is needed is a few tablets from Tesco's and a bit of backbone is, in my opinion, risible.
steady_dave
Ive just recovered from a bout of flu as of last week. Now work won't let me back until i've been to a doctor to determine if it was "normal" flu or swine flu. Good times eh?

Multics
The uk has a far higher population density that those countries. Not quite sure about that. It's affecting cities like Birmingham and London which are no different density-wise than Paris or Rome or Berlin etc etc...
supspower
Being without a spleen makes me worry whether it will affect me more than the average person?? Would also be nice if they told us what these underlying health problems were. These next few months could be quite interesting for the uk...... Don't think i've got it as bad as a lot of people to be honest so i'm considering myself lucky.

Thorin
i havent had a day off ill for 2 yrs! Aren't you the hero. I haven't had a day off sick in all the time I've been working, 11 years. Who's your hero now?! Not had a day off in 2 years, what a hero, put a zero on that, then brag about it. Awww crap.
RedM
Not quite sure about that. It's affecting cities like Birmingham and London which are no different density-wise than Paris or Rome or Berlin etc etc... Maybe they don't go to work when they're ill and so the spread of it is slower. That'd never happen here what with our 'work til you drop' attitude. (tablets) I know the vaccines aren't ready yet: yesterday the reports were they would be available in a few weeks, today they said some would be available from winter. THe info out there isn't very consistent.

Not getting any Tamiflu (even though i've got asthma) but just because i'm not suffering that badly, and that over the counter flu medicine will be all i'll need. I havn't got it as bad as other people that you see on the news. They also told me to let everyone I work with know, but they are no longer dishing out Tamiflu. I have to tell everyone just incase they start having similar symptoms they know to go home straight away.

Charlotte
I really don't understand how at first it was quarantine and docs visiting in white overalls and masks. Now it's stay at home with some paracetamol, how does that make sense?!

Charlotte
They can't cope, Lottie. With the demand of people with illness? I too work for the NHS at the moment and I can assure you, the guidelines given etc aren't all that scary.
