Pixelfill
Some of you may know, that tomorrow morning at some unGodly hour I'll be embarking on a 60 mile charity bike ride. from Manchester to Blackpool Those of you who've had the pleasure of meeting me, will appreciate that this is not going to be an easy task for me. So I'm now going to retire to catch up on some (much needed) beauty sleep before the event. Whilst I'm away - play nicely, and if you feel able to please visit my justgiving page. I'm collecting for a couple of Cancer charities in the North West. Christies (Manchester), and also Rosemere (who support the Encology wards in Preston / Lancashire and South Lakes) Cheers and hopefully see you all tomorrow evening Wish me luck Mike

The Restorer
Donated. Will be interested to see how you get on, what bike you used and what training you did before hand. I may be doing something similar at the end of the month.
Mrs H
Just bumped into this bike ride on my morning jog/crawl through Aspull:) I'm sure I recognised a Mr Wild's voice (but could be wrong), you weren't no. 5277 by any chance were you:d Vicki x
Pixelfill
Donated. Will be interested to see how you get on, what bike you used and what training you did before hand. I may be doing something similar at the end of the month. Cheers mate, it's very much appreciated. Well I finished it, in a time of 5 hours and 25 minutes. this worked out at an average of 11.8 mph over the 63 miles. a bit below what I was hoping, but the final 8 miles were into a heavy headwind. My bike was a 13 year old Steel Framed Mountain bike (Gary Fisher) 21 gears with 2" wide "road" tyres, and the worlds most uncomfortable seat Training wise, I've done a couple of rides a week around the area after work with the rest of the "team" for about 4 weeks. Tuesdays we pushed further - 20, 23, 33, 43 miles. Thursdays we had a shorter 15-20 mile ride "just for kicks" I'm not sure I put enough training in if I'm honest, and 60 miles was probably my limit given the training, and the mule. Best of luck with yours Mike

Anyway I manage to average 16mph but that last bit into Blackpool was a killer with that head wind!!! I will donate shortly
Sharpie
Well done Mike!!!! I did this for 3yrs on the trot when I was a nipper (14/15/16yr old) and I did a lot of cycling back in those days over snake pass, Holm Moss etc... but, still always enjoyed the train ride home back to Manchester after the event, standing up most of the way where I then had to ride another 8.5 miles home. Well Done again !!!! I could not do it now.
