Chris Wilson
To be honest this is on an MR2, not a MKIV. Anyway, done and engine swap, car had weak battery, it almost started, then the battery died. Charged it up for a couple of hours, at lowish amps. Came to try and re start, and as soon as the ignition key is turned to the second position where all the warning lights would show, the engine starts cranking. Turn it against the spring and it stops cranking.... It now won't start though. Is this likely to be a coincidental ignition switch mechanical problem, or could it be something to do with one of the banes of my life, the dreaded immobiliser playing up after messing with batteries/ Thanks. I hate electrics
Tricky-Ricky
A lot of alarms seem to cut both the ignition and starter circuits.
ScottC
I'm sure Matt Harwood will be able to help you. He's just fitted one to mine.
Chris Wilson
My main worry is if an alarm could activate the starter solenoid when the ignition is just in the rumn position, not start, or if it's a loom or ignition / starter switch issue? Thanks.
ScottC
I've pm'd you a link that may help
edge
There are quite a few sites on the net with the schematic diagram for the model you need. I cant find the link i had though
Ryan.G
What conversion have you done Chris? 3sge to 3sgte? If so i expect there will be some differences on the engine loom connectors which connector to the chassis loom. Can you find out what revision the engine loom is and what revision the car. The starter relay is in the boot at the back next to the ecu. IIRC its a green relay. Try bypassing the chassis wiring and make sure that the white/black wire on the starter relay has an earth connection and that the red/white wire has a 12v feed. Chris Wilson
Thanks guys. Ryan: It's just a straight swap. A first gen turbo engine out, a first gen turbo engine in. I left the engine loom on the old engine, the "new" engine came with its loom still attached. Everything connected up fine and i recall no differences. Will check the relay out first, cheers mate!
