my gf had a email at work from the bbc saying how there is a new 118 service starting up where every ones numbers will be available unless you unsubscribe yourself?

has any one else heard about this?

i personally think its a con, as my guess you will enter your number to remove but then are actually giving them your number for what ever reason?

From an email that went round at work - so don't jump me if this isn't 100% correct:

Early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access the numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex directory. You may want to suggest it to all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited messages and calls.

Removal is recommended by the BBC - see link below (9 June)

The Directory of Mobile Phone numbers goes live next week.To remove your number go here. (you need your mobile phone with you to do this, they text you a code)
