davidd
I'm on the bike sat at a roundabout waiting for a gap ... wallop I'm pushed forward & to the left. I get up and rush onto the grass verge - bike is on the floor in the middle of the road. My shin hurts & the silly sod gets out of his car and says ' I didn't see you ,I looked right saw it was clear and pulled out without looking ahead .... they are hard to see motorbikes' Ok he admitted it is his fault, but what narks me is that had a bluetooth phone ear piece on - I bet he busy yapping on rather than looking where he wasgoing. Bike damage is a broken clutch lever, broken indicator, dent in exhaust - will have a closer look at home and then ring him tonight. Good job its the old bike! Elliot
Sounds like it could have been worse, glad you're OK. Was it round a bend or something? Had you been waiting there long? Surely he must have seen you riding up to it I suppose if he wasn't concentrating, he'd be focussing on the traffic coming around the roundabout & using his peripheral vision for in front
davidd
Was it round a bend or something? Had you been waiting there long? Surely he must have seen you riding up to it It was a straight road up to the roundabout, had been waiting about 5 secs & I had ridden along side him at less than 10 mph on the approach to the junction before pulling in front of him about 15 metres before the junction
Elliot
before pulling in front of him about 15 metres before the junction Don't tell the insurers that! He might change his story! I'm not sure what the correct stopping distances are, but maybe you pulled in front a long time before that!? I kind of feel for you both, I can imagine being in the car with nothing in the lane in front, concentrating on the roundabout to the right, then bang! Then again, I can imagine being on my bike (only a 500 mind!) changing lanes legitimately to go round the roundabout, then 'owwch'!
Nic
Sorry to hear this David. I always remember some advice my instructor gave me when doing my bike test. He said when stopped at junction keep one eye on your mirrors, if you see a car coming up fast behind you gun the throttle. Probably not the best of advice if traffic is coming the other way! but I've had a few similar close calls like this in the past
terribleturner
Not good mate. Check it over more than once in good light so as not missing anything. I had a bloke reverse in to my parked bike once. Gave him the quote and then a couple of days later realised more damage. Thank god he didn't knock you into moving traffic on the roundabout. Can't wait till my first commute of the year on the bike. BRING IT ON
Supragal
This is similar to one of the most common accidents on roundabouts. People look right, think it's clear, presume the one in front has gone and BANG. I'm too scared of bikes now, or rather of other road users - sticking to cars!
