pistonbroke
I have around the 2k mark for a new run about for the wife. So far, I have looked at the following 3 1.8 2001 Mondeo. 2.0 2000 Accord 1999 Lexus IS 200 The Mondeo and the Accord have around the 50 - 60 mile mark, full history and seem to be ni the average to good price bracket, whereas the Lexus varies wildly in price, you obviously pay more for a nicer one and at this budget, it's right at the bottom which is putting me off it. Does anyone have any thoughts on the above three, or suggest something else similar. cheers.
Carl_S
If you love your wife choose the lexus, it's like choosing less fine jewellery for her, just becuase you don't believe the price they are selling at, despite the hallmark staring you in the face. pistonbroke
The thing with the Lexus is, it's around the 2k mark, whereas most others are closer to 3. I suppose there is nothing wrong with going to have a look.

pistonbroke
Just looking around the net very quickly, have you had any issues with the oil sludge causing engine failure, or turbo failure.? Carsurvey.org has quite mixed reviews
JamieP
Ive read about that before, mine have been fine, last 2 ive had was well over 150k aswell, i think Gaz1 still has one of my old ones.
stevie_b
Out of those choices I like the look of the IS200 best, but you probably can't beat the Honda if you want "buy-and-forget" reliability (assuming a £2k Lexus is at the bottom of the price bracket). danny1987
I know it’s not on your list but have you considered a ford focus? I’ve got one for sale but it’s out of your price range, but you can get them cheaper. There nice cars to drive, mine is a 1.8 and it got a bit of poke to it, nothing compared to a supra but still good.
