SUPRALOOPY
I have been told I need to take it easy and slow down from now on. I was taken to hospital on monday after two days in bed with agonising back pain, It turned out to be a "prolapsed disc"? I did two bottles of gas and air before getting out of the ambulance and almost a big bottle while laying in the corridor for 3 hours while they found me a bed:rolleyes:. After a nice courtaxzone injection it all went numb. I am now on loads of medication and paranoid about picking anything up:(. So please be carful people as this a pain you do not want (I was crying alot) All I did was lift up a gas bottle (something I do everyday). So sorry for the late replies to PM's and not answering phone calls I'm trying to catch up but can't really do anything until monday at least. Dave:)

benkei
Posture while lifting objects is crucial! Always lift with your legs, keeping your back straight. While I was working at an air-con factory, we were shown a Health and Safety video about lifting correctly. They video'd toddlers lifting balls and other toys, and they naturally bent with their legs,, wrapped their arms around the object, kept their backs straight and lifted it, 100% correctly. Turns out bending our backs is just us becoming lazy. You don't even need to lift anything heavy. The guy giving the talk told us he injured his back from bending down to tie his shoe lace. Apparently your back can just 'go'. Is this a work injury mate? Were you show how to lift correctly to avoid injury? I injured my back a good few years ago, it's never been right since, although doing back excercises has strengthened it, it's always in the back of my mind to be careful of it. The pain is immence and so inconvenient when you can't move
AlexM
Take it easy Dave, be very careful picking anything heavy up. Hopefully the pain will lift off soon and you can be active again - have you been recommended to see a chyropractor or osteopath to put you on the path to recovery? I've had problems on and off for the last three years, all I did was lift a television up (which at the time, I did many times a day) - I've just had my back 'reset' this week and I feel like an immobile old man.
