Should drivers be fined for passenger actions?

This one is regarding litter but I'm guessing it could be extended to other things. Should the driver of a vehicle have full responsibility for the actions of their passengers?

Will this littering things also cover people who flick ash from cigarettes out of the window?

Drivers who drop litter from their cars should be penalised with a point on their licence, say campaigners.

Keep Britain Tidy says its research has shown it is a better deterrent than fines, which are already handed out.

It argues that as it is difficult to identify who has actually thrown the litter, all the blame should fall on the car owner.

nice idea but in reality almost no one will be caught on camera doing it and so very few is any will actually get fined.

Shouldnt it be the driver is responsible for anyone in the car under 18, over 18 and let the police get that person for dropping litter! although they wont do that cause they cant prove who did it but if they have a license plate then its much easier lol

same as always in this country hit the motorist as we are easy targets..... the problem is people who drop litter not little being dropped from cars

I wouldn't be happy about it, but if I had a passenger who threw something out of the window - what am I supposed to be about it? I can't exactly stop on the road and make them pick it up..

Maybe warn them not to do so before they do it? Just a thought. :)

Perhaps public executions for the smallest misdemeanor of driver and/or passenger - including - if it looked like they were about to eject something from the car.

This would be televised with a Jeremy Kyle style format.

You can set rules for how to act in your car (like in Transporter :D) and they should behave like that. But as the saying goes: "I am not my brother's keeper." And like AlexM said, you can't stop on a motorway and have the passenger pick up the litter, I'm sure that's way more dangerous and more illegal!

A little harsh that... I recon they should go into a game show and only the winner comes out alive..

That'll be better TV..

I don't think you should be responsible for another adults actions just because they happen to be within the confounds of your property.

You can refuse to drive off if they don't put there seat belt on, but for general other stuff no.

And then just when he leaves the studios - bang! He's dead.

C'mon it's the only way. Then like the Michael Jackson tribute Funeral Show TV Extravaganza thing, you could parade the winner's (final loser's) young son or daughter around for the nation to observe, saying what "a great dad he was" etc

I'd watch...a bit.

Maybe you could see him get back into his car, all smug that he 'beat' the system and then it get picked up, put into a crusher and ... Squidge..

there should be a degree of legal culpability in certain senarios, but not a blanket rule.

Eg when someone throws a duvet or pillows out of the window. Doesn't matter if it has duck feathers in or not, or whatever tog it is. No blanket rule.
