Terminator
Leon does belts at approximately half the price of the OME which is around £70 AFAIK.

Rob
S'true, Toyota request about £65-70 for a drive belt. When I expressed shock, the parts man said... "It is quite a long belt"

Need4Speed
I paid £18.75 and £20 fitting (while it was in for a service) seems decent to me. I know the belt came from Toyota although the workshop (they supplied the car) was not a franchised Toyota one.

FaithStalker
my belt was changed 6K ago, and i've suddenly got a little squeek from a "cog" at the top of the engine, (after being serviced by Leon) if i squirt a little wd40 on the cog, it all goes away!!!!!!! anything to be worried about - seems only to be in damp conditions ! Adam_SG
Come on some one gimme Leons number, i know u want to.
Terminator
I dont know how good it is to put WD40 on rubber belts. I have used a belt lubricant on other cars but not on the MKIV
Adam_SG
I took my car to Toyota not so long ago, they lubed up the belt to see if it helped at all. They told me the belt is self tensioning and would only squeek if it needed replacing.
Terminator
There is a self tensioning mechanism on the MKIV for the main belt. Tony, 6K sounds far to short a time to replace, normally it is changed at 30K intervals AFAIK. Unless it is a naff belt:(. Does the belt show any signs iof cracking on the ridged side? I changed mine at 20K as it had slight cracks but it was silent.
FaithStalker
its not the belt i put it on, its where the cog thing (cam?) goes into the engine ..the rod itself !
Terminator
Or errr I should chat to Leon, squeaky cams ouch:(
FaithStalker
well its only done it 1 or twice in the entire time that ive owned it, - you can take a look at Stevenage meet if its doing it then, more of a tick than a squeek ! if it does it more often i'll take it to Leon! whats the worst it could be ? As a few people have stated the original Toyota belt is between £60 - £80. Agreed that is a ridiculous price when aftermarket alternatives are about half the price. Terminator
I wonder if we are all talking about the same belt. The cam belt is much less than the very long main belt that is visible at the front of the car. I thought cam belts were circa £20.
Guest Martin F
Yep i was wondering that as well.
Need4Speed
I can assure you that the belt changed was the auxiliary belt not the cam belt. Clearly somebody in the parts dept made a mistake in billing. I was told the belt would be about £60 but was charged £18.75. The belt came from a main Toyota dealer - it was out of their van. I can't imagine any decent workship charging £20 to fit a cam belt. Looks like I had a fortunate bargain then. Incidentally, £60 seems a reasonable price to me for the auxiliary belt - this not a Panda (no offence) we're talking about.
