Shovels
Before I bought the Supra I had intended on keeping my little peugeot 306 as an every day car.... That was until Sunday! I had almost made my mind up to sell the pug and buy a set of leathers. Going from a 500+ BHP car to a 50/60 BHP car is no fun, so thought a bike would be a "good" alternative. Whilst in the bike shop walking around the missus comes running in..."Your car is making a 'funny' noise" I walk outside to hear my little pug clunking away like there's a tin of nails rattling around in the engine! All of a sudden clatter, clatter, clunk.... After a closer inspection it looks as though one of the bearings on the cam belt shattered The thing is that I have spoken to mates and asked if when you have your cambelt changed they replace/advise on replacement of this bearing, most of them say not. The thing that concerns me is that it's annoying enough that it happened to my little pug, but I don't want it happening to my Supra! Any advice/recommendations? Barry
Cam belt tensioner probably went walkies, in that case the valves would have dropped and done all sorts of damage, no real way of telling until you get the head off tho. The Supra I believe is a 'non-interference' engine, so if the cam belt does go, the valves will not come into contact with the pistons, which will save a few $$$. Steady - not all of them are! There was a thread on it a little while ago. I think it was just VVTi non turbos that were interference or something like that.. Ian C
Anything with wide cams on as well, over I think 10mm lift. The 272's and I think the JUN 264's. -Ian

Are you saying that going to such high-lift cams is going to potentially mean that if the cam belt, or something around that area goes the valves get bent?
