Downsides. I can't afford it. 12.5K rev limit hard to rationalise with Doningtons drive by noise limit Wink

Upsides. Too many to list Cool

It will have been used as a hillclimb car, some REALLY exotic stuff ends up there, the money is available, and their idea of a hillclimb is about 12 miles long....

Two ex works DTM C classes were for sale near Stonehenge in the last 2 years or so, by Brian Chatfield. A character who seemed to buy genuine ex works cars from their respective manufacturers, run them until they either broke or needed a rebuild, then stored them in a damp shed until he got fed up and had a sale of the whole caboodle. At the same vendors was the 190 that Andy and Justin Rouse have used in the Britcar series last year. The C classes were ex Ellen Lohr and another factory driver, in unmolested and seemingly good condition. The price was high, but not silly and I was genuinely tempted to buy one until Andy put me right as to their maintenance needs. The Bosch software hadn't and never would be released for the engine and gearbox ecus's, the ABS was bespoke, again with a confidentiality agreement between Bosch and Merc. The air valve engine was fickle, eye wateringly expensive for parts and about as complex as an F1 engine of the same era. The C classes were, and still are, the ultimate development of a saloon car for racing. Ultra trick with some fabulous features, the whole engine and box could be removed in about 6 minutes from the bulkhead, as a unit, with all dry break connectors. The tub was more carbon than steel and as rigid as an F1 of the era. The electronics were more complex than any other race car at the time. I once found an article on these cars, quite fascinating reading, the development costs were almost into space shuttle territory. I saw them run at Donington, utterly awesome things. But I still can't afford one, not even to just look at!
