Adjusted Throttle Control Valve.........more petrol consumption now!

Hey Guys!

 

I recently had a problem with my throttle control valve being out of position, so managed to brave fixing it and resetting the ECU and it appears to have worked, it now idols nicely at 900 revs.............. But now I have noticed that my fuel consumption has gone up! I've used just about quarter of a tank this weekend and I haven't covered many miles at all, maybe 30 - 50 miles!

 

Is this right?? Usually my fuel is better then that? Have I opened the throttle control valve too much or is it something else completely??

What exactly did you adjust?

 

I don't think the idle speed control valve is adjustable, it just might need cleaning out, but I don't think you can adjust it.

 

The throttle position sensor is adjustable, but you shouldn't ever have to touch it.

If you have moved the throttle position sensor to try and fix a fast idle the ecu will now be getting incorrect signals in regard to throttle openings, and the engine may well drink fuel.
