The Raven
Long story short, Started up my company not to long back, Danced to the tune of HSE, and six different inspectors, shelled out shed loads of cash.....Thought i was ready to start making some money and........ I get a letter from the people that issue my guarantees. seems i owe them 2k for jobs they have put right in the last 10 years since the company stopped installing cavity wall. I have a few issues with this, first off i paid them to guarantee the work, secondly they have to tell me of a complant and allow me to put it right. While the company was no longer fitting cavity wall we where still here and could be contacted they simplyt never bothered. Third. They have not give me any details of the work that needed to be carried out, who they got to do it, when they did it, zero nothing, just the bill. A phone call ends with the women telling me "well everyone that has reapplyed has had the same thing happen, yours is the lowest bill we have ever done......thats not bad...it was only 3 jobs" So now im thinking.......well 3 jobs out of thousands done over 10 years ago isnt bad....... Until i work the bill again! i charge around £500 per house. So unless the problems where that i didnt pump anything in the wall at all then how on earth have they come up with that figure! Im now waiting for the head money stealing ass to ring me back. I also considered that if i had changed the name of my LTD company they wouldnt have been able to do anything. I have a nasty feeling im going to have to pay these As*eholes in order to get on and do some work. Not happy................
stevie_b
They sound a bit shady. They should at least be able to provide you with a paper trail of what needed doing, by whom, and when. Without that, they might be making it up... I guess the small print of your contract with them should (hopefully) clarify where you stand. secondly they have to tell me of a complant and allow me to put it right. And if they don't tell you (as in this case)? Are they in breach of contract?

stevie_b
I still don't understand what this other company does. You pay them money to issue bits of paper guaranteeing your work (I can understand that gives customers a warm feeling, fair enough). If your work needs remedial work under guarantee, the other company then does the work and recoups the cost from you. Are there any other companies who provide a similar service? If not I guess you may just need to cough up, but make it clear to them that you need to be consulted in future. Sounds like a way to provide nice bubbly at their Christmas party, unless they can show you convincing paperwork to the contrary.
Matt H
They refuse to issue more guarantees until they are paid Can you not use a different company? I don't get the use of this gaurantees company. Surely it should like an insurance thing, meaning you pay a premium and if something goes tits then you don't loose out?

On the second point, i agree and i pointed that out. As i expected no money no gaurantee. without them i cant run my company so i have just sent them 2k.......... I will be following it up with letters to head office but i dont think i will get anywhere. Thiefing SOBs
