Pipes with olives

Hey All

I need to replace a pipe on my compressor, that got broken. In the picture it's the right hand pipe - you can see it broke off just below the "cuff" type thing.

I ordered a replacement, but I can't get it to fit - it's come with an "olive" but this looks completely different to what was on there before. It seems to be too big and doesn't allow the large gold nut to clear the pipe and mate to the connection that it's supposed to go on.

Is anyone familiar with this sort of thing? Am I missing something?

I might have misunderstood but are you trying to put the old nut over the end of the new pipe as shown in the pic and down past the olive? :innocent:

The new pipe at the end should have the nut fitted first and then the olive.

Is the new olive compressed tightly onto the pipe or can you slide it off?

No I'm putting the old nut on first, then the olive, but then when I offer the pipe up to where it's going, the nut doesn't reach the threaded connector (that you can't see) because the olive is in the way.

Is brute force required? :)

James
