cheekymonkey
Hey All I need to replace a pipe on my compressor, that got broken. In the picture it's the right hand pipe - you can see it broke off just below the "cuff" type thing. I ordered a replacement, but I can't get it to fit - it's come with an "olive" but this looks completely different to what was on there before. It seems to be too big and doesn't allow the large gold nut to clear the pipe and mate to the connection that it's supposed to go on. Is anyone familiar with this sort of thing? Am I missing something?
cheekymonkey
No plumbers there then?
merckx
Does the new pipe have it's own nut fitted over the pipe before the olive or are using the old nut? Is anything fitted to the other end of the pipe that we can't see?
cheekymonkey
I'll be using the old nut. The other end of the pipe has a flared end and another nut already on there for fitting to the pressure tank end.
merckx
I might have misunderstood but are you trying to put the old nut over the end of the new pipe as shown in the pic and down past the olive? The new pipe at the end should have the nut fitted first and then the olive. Is the new olive compressed tightly onto the pipe or can you slide it off? cheekymonkey
No I'm putting the old nut on first, then the olive, but then when I offer the pipe up to where it's going, the nut doesn't reach the threaded connector (that you can't see) because the olive is in the way. Is brute force required? James
merckx
Okay, I follow. Just buy a standard replacement olive that matches the old one. What's the diameter of the pipe? B & Q sell 8,10,12 and 15 mm olives.
cheekymonkey
Ah, brilliant, thanks. I was wondering if the new olive I have is in it's "uncompressed" form or something, but obviously not! Cheers James
