Opinions on my hard pipes ;) - newbie

Id just like to to take this opportunity to say hi to all.

This site and the people on it have been invaluable in helping me improve my knowledge on the supra.

Ive finally managed to find a nice supra, 95 TT auto with 25K miles.

Its going on the boat in a couple of days.

Could anyone please let me know what that think regarding the pipes and 2 air filters etc. Would i be better off with the standard airbox?

Thanks in advance.

Ian

people say the standard airbox is better and there mostly right....the only gain you get with non standard inductions is a mental sucking noise.....if you like that kind of thing.....keep them, ive got a stainless steel mesh Blitz SUS induction on mine and it makes a sweet whistling sound while the turb's are spinning away ;)

welcome by the way

Hi mate and welcome. As Mikey says, it's not better than the standard airbox, but it wont do any harm. Lookks very nice though. The radiator hard pipe doesn't look like it's saging yet, but it never hurts to fix something before it goes wrong. Then you'll be on the slippery slope of modding.

Wasn't there a thread a while back that suggested that a/m filters might not be up to the job and could be damaging turbos?

Thanks Nic, I love the bumper too, although until now didn't know who it was made by :thanks:

Not sure what to do about the number plate though, where abouts shall i fit it and what size can i get away with without getting pulled?

Im pretty sure the turbos will be ok.....A/M induction just dont tend to filter as well as the standard air box does........there is'nt a great deal of difference its really not worth worrying about imo

keep the twin filters mate.....look 10 times better and when you hear the sound of it you wont go back to your standard airbox....... :)

if your really worried upgrade to a K&N panel filter

Just noticed your car has HKS Hypermax II suspension, which will give the car superb handling.

:woot: thanks again Nic, didn't know that either, anything else under there worth noting?

I got such a good deal on the car I haven't asked for a full mod list yet.

Things I do know are:

FMIC, aftermarket ecu, boost controller, full am exhaust system, again, don't know the manufacturers of any of these.

thanks everyone for you comments, very helpful. :thanks:

looks like there might be some sort of after market Blow off valve in there somewhere, because the standard one is not in there......unless they just removed it and did'nt replace it? :)

actually my mistake there is one in there.......looks like a turbo XS jobbie ub the front coming of your intercooler piping

Through an agent in japan, the mechanic i use has been using him for 10 years so that was good enough for me.

Wouldn't have done it this way otherwise, not without having a trusted agent in japan.

Been looking since February but he came up trumps with this one!

... Would i be better off with the standard airbox?...

If you want better performance and increased reliability, then the answer is YES

If you want 'bling', noiz and great looks with the bonnet open, then the answer is NO.

Blimey that's a lot of expense for not much gain...completely independant intakes for each turbo. Nice, but, why? I'm sure it works fine...though I personally would replace the filters with Cotton K&N's or Apex'i ones. I'd also get a nice heat shield fabricated between the engine and the filters.

Not much point, IMO, discussing the stock airbox as you'd have to replace a lot of pipework before being able to.

an after market open element filter = more air flow which leads to equal, if not better performace IMO
Except that open element airfilters suck in the heat from the engine bay. The Stock closed element one does not.

Hot air = worse performance.

Thats true but it depends how you have it set up......if you house it down it the frong wing it wont have the hot air from the engine there

Getting a double skinned heat shied won't be a problem, my mates a metal worker.

So with a heat shied, would "in theory" these 2 filters provide better performance than a standard filter box?

In all honesty - no - cause the turbo's arn't big enough to really make use of the extra flow potential...it may be better...but I doubt it will be really noticable.
