Guest mickmcl007
hi ive just discovered that my 1995 na that has a 180mph clock on it and says that the distance is in miles is actually clocking up kilometers instead of miles, is there anything that can be done to rectify this , i would also like the clock to be set to the correct mileage as this current reading is wrong.. Al Massey
The j spec odometer would originally clock up in km's untill a conversion is done and would then clock up further in miles from the time it was converted so some of the reading will be both miles and km's if converted properly. there is no way to alter the reading
Homer
As above, if the convertor has been wired into the odo it'll clock up in miles since it's been fitted. Very easy to check for, there will be two wires spliced into the odo plug. there is no way to alter the reading It's possible to adjust these, as with any car there are ways around the protection. The system is quite basic really. I'm not going to tell anyone how to do it though
Guest Manissupra
:taped:Mick...I too have a 1995 n/a j-spec Supra. I bought it lasty October with the odo reading 103,000 km. The guy I bought it from said it had a km.mile converter on it. I drove next to my wifes unaltered/new Suzuki Vitara to see if this was true & it was. I then made inquires into having the odo read in miles thinking this was all I needed. I found a real dirtbag of a character/business on the internet named DASH MEDIC...GUYS NAME IS KEITH. To make a long story short..Keith at Dash Medic said he could do the conversion for £250.00. I thought pricey but ok if this will take care of it. He had me meet him at some guys house with tatoos all over his arms by/in Preston & the guy pulls my speedo out cuts some wires & sends me to another guy in Preston to then roll the miles to what they should be & this guy wants £175.00 to do this job. My speedo stopped working, my odo off is flashing non stop & I leave my odo with this so-called professional to roll my miles. I drove around for 3 months w/out an odo or dash in my car. The guy who has my odo (business name Digi Dash Northwest) blew something on his squarewave device & is waiting for a part the whole time. I tell him I have had enough & want my odo back. I drive back to Preston get my odo back, call the Dirtbag at DASH MEDIC/text & get a response back via text that Keith hasn't had this number for weeks. I ended up buying another odo online in miles already from a guy who is a member of this site & he sent me links on how to convert through soldering/moving resistors on my odo from km to miles. My car now reads in miles, I now need a UK spec odo for it work properly & had to pull out the shit wiring job done by the 1st clown Keith. A new speedo will cost you £166.00 from japan. Then when you get that sorted its time to try & find someone who can roll the miles either past a million (which can take months or to re-set the odo to zero) then roll it back up to what it should read in miles. Be careful...make sure you do your homework & ask the right questions. It's a lot of work & money. My car still isn't right. Good luck. Hope this little novel helps in some way. stevie_b
mickmcl007, if I understand correctly your speedo is reading in mph, and your odometer is counting miles but the odo display says "km", correct? If this is correct, then all you need to do is to alter the wiring slightly on the odo circuit board to make the "miles" legend light up instead of the "km" legend. I can't help right now, but if you're still stuck later/over the weekend, I'll try to find details of exactly what would need altering. Guest mickmcl007
its had a speedo conversion done on the car before i bought it, the speedo is now a 180mph one, the digital display reads that the figure is in miles, i thought that a journey that i was doing was a different mileage so i done it in my other car, ive now discovered that the supra is clocking up miles but really its covering km, so its doing more miles than it really is.... sounds confusing so its registering miles but its doing it in km so its clocking up 80miles this would actualy be 50 miles
Homer
This is quite normal. There are speedo convertors and Speed+odo convertors. The Thor one is VERY good, not only does it convert both the speedo and odo, but also corrects the PAS adjustment signal to the ECU (meaning that the PAS is not over correcting at higher speeds). This is essential and near all convertors do not make this adjustment back to the ECU It sounds like the one you have is only a speedo convertor. Guest mickmcl007
so where can i get this thor conversion from...
Homer
http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/ It's not listed on their page so best to call them direct and see if they still do them.
georigg
You can also get the conversion done at NCS who are in Kegworth Derb. Give them a call on 01509 670 707 and explain exactly what you need done. They supplied my converter for KPH to MPH and also changed the odo reading back from the KM reading to the equiv reading in miles........that cost £80. Keep well away from the Ebay spivs/Ill come to your door and do it for you types, they change odo readings by having the right software to inteface with the electronic speedos in modern cars, but they will not be able to "do" supras as the odo is separate from the speedo head, both of which take their signal from the speed pick-up at the gearbox. You can change the odo "KM" letters to MPH by a simple change to the wiring at the Odo(see the How to do section on the board, but to change the actual reading back to an equiv MPH figure, it is necessary to run the odo round through 99999 and then up to the equiv reading by feeding in a square wave signal to the unit . Both Thor and NCS do this conversion; not sure what Thor charges though. Rgds George
