i wouldn't normally ask a question like this but im getting on now and tend to go for a performance car and then a practical car and then car to a performance car. the problem is that obviously i enjoy driving the performance cars but it kind of stops there as i cant get the kids in the back, does silly mpg and is just all in all not practical.

then i go out and buy a practical car which fits everyone in, is cheap to run and insure but oh my god its boring :(

what in after is a nice looking car and seats 4 in comfort with a fair amount of power, fun to drive and reasonable to run and i have a budget of around £6000

oh lord please help me

As mentioned above the BMW 530d in M sport will be a nice choice. A 330d will be in budget as well but the 5 series is a much better quality of car.

Volvo S60R (saloon) or V70R (estate) are seriously quick, fully loaded, spacious and uber comfy! A lot better than what people would belive on fuel as well which is a bonus but running costs are very high.

Mercedes C270CDI. Considering these start at around £3K, for your budget you'll get a nice one.

Audi A4 2.5 V6 TDi 180bhp Sport. (The 2.5 V6 TDI VW Passat's are awesome value for money and cheaper than the Audi as is the 2.8 V6 4-motion petrol).

Jaguar S-type 3.0 V6 Sport, Jaguar XJ 3.2 V8 Sport

SAAB 9-5 2.3 HOT Aero (fast, spacious, comfy and quite economical) - the 9-5 also comes in diesel variants as well.
