Havard
Hmm, wierd thread..!! I would try to get your hands on some pics, join the forum and post them up. The car may be straight but there seems to be some glaring contradictions in what the seller is offering..!! If he registers it with the DVLA then I doubt you'll have much fun changing it. Silversoops car was put in the £455 tax bracket when it was a 99 car and should have been £190 for a year. The DVLA would not change the log book no matter how obvious the mistake was. Steer clear or do some detective work with our help, simple really..!! H.
stevie_b
I'm curious about this car, if only to see the look on the seller's face when (presumably) he's proven wrong. Do be very wary of sellers of powerful cars who don't know anything about them. It might be fine, but the seller's either ignorant of what he owns, or is a bit shady. Neither is usually good news for the buyer. If he doesn't know what size engine it has, does he know where the oil dipstick is, or what it's there for? If it were me, I'd still have a look at the car, but unless there's hard evidence, disregard any sales patter the seller may give you (e.g. cambelt was changed 6 months ago / 4 brand new tyres fitted / Czechoslovakian yeast has been added to the fuel to make it run better / etc), you get the idea. DSK
The dealer sounds very ropey to me so what does that say about the car! Ropey dealers = crap cars. I'd say take a pop down, take a look at the engine, it should say 3000 on the top of the cover to indicate its a 3.0 ltr engine. If its not, then its been messed about with, I'd stay well clear. To be honest there are enough members cars and also a few on autotrader/piston heads that will be within your budget to choose from, you should be able to get a respectable N/A car for that, but don't expect to find one on your doorstep.
