Hey i know you!!

Your that Mr-T off the A-Team!!

Don't Hannibal, Merdock and Face normally give you a traquilizer jab before you get on the flight???

"I ain't getting on know aeroplane, fool!"

:p

Sorry to mock your predicament, just couldn't help myself.

Not sure Valium's that good an idea, although i haven't tried it. How long's the flight?

I fly all the time, i just hate it. got 2 holidays coming up over the next couple of months and im not looking forward

blooming eck...so I'm not the only one...I flown all over the place...but 6 years ago I started to develop a phobia of Flying...I worked at Heathrow one summer working with the despatch dept and well...after hearing various tales of doom and gloom I started to get real scared.

I think its the feeling of not knowing whats happening and not feeling that you are in control...and having a wild immagination like I do (Dude Jake CJ Matt H...bring on the comments he he)

I have not flown for over 5 years now..and September 11th just made it far worse!

A few mates and some family are planning to go on a cruise in the Carrabean this year...and I can get a discount because I know someone who works on the boat....but I really want to go ...but I can see myself getting off the plane before it takes off.

I wouldn't take Valium...but I can reccomend some herbal tablets called Kalm or Calm (not sure)

They can be bought in Boots and surprisingly ...they really do work..Id mix that with a brandy or a couple of glasses of white wine, take some magazines or better still a book.

I'm not sure if you are still allowed to go in the cockpit but often when i asked they would let me...and it was reassuring to (unnerve lol) the Captain and his Pilot, I was invited to stay for the landings on two occasions..and it actually helped...but things got worse after a roppy flight from Cyprus that went through a really bad storm.

Good luck pass your tips onto me if you get any others!

I hadn't flown for 3 years and had to fly to Berlin with work which was making me really nervous. I must admit I did have a bit of a drink beforehand, but but after making 5 flights shortly afterwards I started to relax and found myself even looking out of the window and quite enjoying the experience without the use of alcohol. You've got to look around and try and relax just like everyone else. Get yourself some refreshments onboard and read a newspaper or book and just take it easy like you're on a bus, which is just about how they're looked upon in the States now.

You'll be fine!!!!!!!!! :)

If you are properly phobic about flying then not much anyone can say here will help you, but speaking as someone with a quater of a million KLM frequent flyer loyalty points under his belt all I can sey is that you will eventually get over any "normal" fears if you just muck in and try it.

I used to get really windy on take off and landing and I'd constantly be secodn-guessing what the pilot was doing and the noises the plane was making. If I get a good seat then these days I can pretty much sleep through it all - landing included.

IMHO alcohol and planes do not mix well. I get very dehydrated on long haul flights and drinking a lot of booze does not help. I try to drink as much water as I can on a long flight. Herbal sleeping pills, a bloody good book and just getting used to it is the best thing, I reckon.

dont know what to say.... my GF works for United airlines, so I fly a lot. I think I do worry a little as you do start to think that anthing happening is unlikely, but as with habitual players of the national lottery you have to win something eventually

Waste of time, to calm you enough you will probably be asleep and never get on the plane. Try Beta blockers, clams you down, stops all the underlaying stress stuff. Well known drug for big solo music performers, public speakers etc. Just keeps you calm but every thing work fine.

Sorry if someone has mentioned this already, but no time to read all the posts
