Green Peace
This may or may not be a repost but its worth reminding ourselves with holidays ahead planned. Some new laws in Europe! Spain planned to ban Radar detectors along with France last year. Its now an offence to flash oncoming motorists to warn them of Police in Spain. If you get out of your car you must wear a yellow reflective jacket on main roads/Motorways (even if it dosn't match your shorts!) If you get caught with a Radar detector in Luxembourg the report below reckons you can be put inside for between 8 days to three years depending on wether the Judge has sex the night before! ......and lots of other miserable new laws and penelties we didn't know about..as follows! http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/?news_id=1418 Does anyone know how accurate this site is, or if there any others? Green Peace
Theres nothing seriously different there. Wont deter us Me niether...but wasn't aware myself of Radar dector ban in Spain. I am planning to drive Bilbao to Toulouse and as before would normally take radar out on entering France but the friggin Spanish have banned em too....Hey Bobbeh? You aint got a nice trendy Yellow Jacket I can Borrow have you?
Bobbeh
I dont even use a radar detector.. i thought it was common knowledge that these things werent allowed in Europe? Ah I see your pain about the route.. just imagine how ridiculous it is for foriegners coming here and seeing the joke of speed cameras etc we have to put up with! Crossing the channel is like a breath of fresh air in terms of motoring.
Green Peace
yep I agree...its a real pleasure, its gives you a real chance to fully enjoy motoring, hardly ever see Police there but if they catch you its not nice...but less chance of getting caught there I'd say. I try to avoid the Calais route, they are real cnuts the Police there and will say you are speeding even if you are'nt. The Ferry to Bilbao is a great (but Expensive) way of doing it two nights of drinking and having a laugh and then an early abrupt morning call from the captain to get to ya car and off you go..even the Customs people are nice...they always pull me up just to look at the car...they even remember me. The road from Bilbao to France is a great road, did get stoped at the border by some v polite authorities again they wanted a tour of the Supra. Bilbao to Toulouse takes about 5 to 6 hours with a few coffees/stops but it seems like much less... Cant wait to be out on the open motoway again..no Fast Lane hoggers, everyone moves out of the way..people smile and wave...the tolls are worth every penny! Bobbeh
Exactly.. do you think they enjoy pulling over foreigners and trying to communicate the problems? No my mate was 'done' overtaking a police bike over 90mph, the cop just waved him to slow down, now why cant they do that here?! Thats the best thing about going to the Ring, or the Autobahns, total freedom to use your car for what it was built for.. it just feels so good. Ian R
Good article in this weeks Autocar interesting to read that they cannot inforce fines at present until a new law comes into affect in 2007 for EU countries. On the spot fines can still be made but others can not be collected if ignored
